The Gatehouse Cafe

I visited this cafe with my family in may during lockdown as they were offering a takeaway service. I’ve seen the owner buy stock from the local co-op which I don’t have a problem with. I do find issue with being charged £5 for a...bacon or sausage sandwich and in the instance for extras in sandwiches ranging from £1.80 to £1.00 so for example a bacon and egg sandwich would produce a charge of £6.00. Regardless of any personal wealth, that is terrible value. Only if the bread or other components were made with some form of endangered ingredient procured from the black market would I understand such a mark up. We dined here on 20th May 2021. 1 vegan. 2 vegetarian. 1 gluten free. The waitress took our order. Everything was spot on. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent selection of food (whatever your needs) polite and friendly staff. Lovely decor and very clean. Situated...right next to Waltham Abbey church with it’s lovely gardens. Would highly recommend. Even though we are from Brentwood, we shall definitely return!!

This was such a gorgeous cafe, such friendly staff and gorgeous food. I had a pastrami bagel and it was delicious. Really reasonably priced and just such a lovely atmosphere. I wasn’t able to take lots of photos but I did get one of my...bagel . I will definitely be returning soon. The venue is bigger than the pictures show, it’s really cosy and really nicely decorated.

really recommend the pastrami bagel with gherkins. the quiche was also great. this is a nice relaxed caffe waltham abbey. we were four walkers who enjoy the lea river valley walk, and this caffe was recommended by a local girl at the right moment. she was right. a great cup of tea. the gatehouse cafe offers tables in the interior and exterior, which sit on a green one by the church and the Abbey wall. the staff is very friendly and helpful. the drinks and eating were excellent.

the gatehouse offers amazingly tasty freshly prepared and cooked meals the menu is quite varied. the atmosphere is very relaxed and cheerful the building is historical as the city waltham abbey

This is a great cafe for breakfasts, jacket potatoes and even just a cuppa and cake! Gluten free options available. Friendly service from Sean and his team. I always look forward to my visits.

this caffe has a very good vegetarian menu. I liked the breakfast too. I recommend to visit them there
