We just had GrubHub deliver a meal from the Golden Bowl Restaurant. We wanted to try something we hadn't before. The reviews on both Yelp and GrubHub were good, so we gave it a go. We ordered pork Roasted Pork Egg Foo Young, Szechuan Chicken, and Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice. That was a lot for two people, and we barely made a dent in what was delivered. We often order crispy smelt to go from this restaurant, and it's simply the best! It's so crispy that it remains delicious even the next day. We dined in for the second time last night, and all the dishes we tried were authentically Chinese and incredibly tasty. We ordered the Hong Kong steak and Kung Pao chicken, both perfectly cooked with a lovely balance of flavors and spice—not overwhelming at all. My group of 4 arrived at 7p on a Friday night. There were 3 groups already seated when we arrived and only one waitress serving the entire room. Sadly the group of 4 that arrived 20 minutes after us, had their orders taken prior to us. I asked the bartender if there was any else on the floor and she said she would look into this. I am sure she knew how many people were working and she obviously was too busy cleaning glasses to help the lone waitress. Once our orders were taken, appetizers arrived promptly as did the food. We've been visiting this Chinese takeout spot in the suburbs for many years now, and it's our go-to choice. The ambiance is somewhat outdated and cluttered, but we typically opt for takeout rather than dining in. The Cantonese cuisine is consistently good, which is a great find for the area. Our regular orders include beef and Chinese broccoli chow mein, salt and pepper shrimp (or anything salt and pepper), ginger scallion fish, seafood tofu casserole, pea tips, and various other dishes. I am going to give it a 4. I thought it was decent. However, my boyfriend felt the prices were high. They serve hot green tea for the table. We each ordered a soup. For my entree I got the beef with peppers and tomatoes, portions were huge! Came with white rice that I barely touched. My boyfriend had sweet and sour chicken. The breading was very thick. Entrees were about $13 to 15. One server was running around everywhere.
Whenever you're in need of a quick and high-quality Chinese meal, Golden Bowl is always a great choice. Their food consistently satisfies, and some of our favorites include the fried smelts, beef and broccoli, Kung Pao beef, fried rice, and triple delight. You can't go wrong with any dish on the menu. It's definitely one of our go-to places.
