My husband and I were visiting Bath for the Christmas market and were thrilled to be in town on the same day as old friends we hadn't seen in years due to covid and distance. We decided to try out the Grumpy Baker based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. We spent a few hours at the café with our suitcases, as we were flying home right after lunch. The cashier and waitress at this restaurant were extremely rude and displayed racist behavior. They made shocking comments that were offensive and unwelcoming to black customers. I visited this establishment while looking at houses in the area, but I will never return or consider living here. When I ordered a sandwich with mayo, despite being allergic to it, the cashier was disrespectful and refused to provide a replacement. The manager only offered a partial refund after the situation escalated. The Grumpy Baker is a wonderful discovery in Oldfield Park. The staff is incredibly friendly and the cakes are scrumptious. The size of the place is just right and I love it. The sandwiches are tasty, although I personally think they are a bit expensive. I did have a minor issue with a not completely clean cup once, but it was a one-time occurrence. Overall, I adore this place and think they are fantastic. The staff is amazing and should never change – they are the best!
