An old fashioned pub with a bar area and a restaurant area. You can eat in the restaurant with table service waitress) or eat in the bar area with bar service you order at the bar). We had a nice table for two in the bar area next to a lovely log fire. Clearly a very popular venue with a mix of pre booked parties and those who just decided to turn up on the day. Dogs are very welcome. Good quality food we had traditional fish and chips and fish cake and chips both £16 £17) with a soft drink each totalling £41.40. I was therefore surprised that 2 x small sparkling waters plus a single dash of lime must be around £8. My fish was in a lovely light batter with well cooked chips. The pea puree was very different to mushy peas crushed garden peas), but I couldn't taste the mint. A good meal. Nice surrounding; decent toilets and friendly staff. The clearly cater for Christmas and New Year groups with festive menus on the tables and Boxing Day £40) and New Year's eve £75) menus available.

We just happened to be in Battlesbridge Popped into The Hawk for dinner. Had drinks at the bar then greeted by Susan (Sue) who showed us to our table Sue could not have been more welcoming OMG The food for starters we had the scallops and the pate. Our mains linguine with clams and 10oz steak with beef dripping sauce (you’ll never have better) was fantastic Every course was checked on by Sue to make sure everything was ok Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert rounded of a perfect evening Every member of staff had a smile on their face and a bounce in their step Only thing missing was the chefs coming out of the kitchen for a bow A Great Experience. Thank you all. Pat Bob (6th Nov 23)

I’ve visited here about 4 times since April ‘23 and have enjoyed every single time. Their drinks, particularly their martinis, are outstanding and the food is insane! We love the fish and chips and the buttermilk chicken burger, and their desserts are to die for. The place is normally quite busy but always cosy and enjoyable. Staff are busy but always friendly and approachable. Prices are reasonable
