Booked a birthday treat for my partner and found this historic (1660 pub in sleepy little Duxford. Pre-arrival Andrew emailed to let us know a jazz trio would be playing on Sat evening and would we like a table which was a nice touch. Jazz not our thing so a little prediction was helpful. (We actually ate in the pub both nights and it was a lovely experience! On arrival, I noticed it had Greene King logos, and having not had any positive experiences in GK pubs I was immediately disappointed. Turns out Andrew and his partner lease the building and have created a lovely, low-key, simple, and unique environment and experience for guests. The pub is great and the beer is well-kept and delicious, but unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. There weren't enough staff on the day we visited, and the server taking our orders was overwhelmed. The food was not up to par for any of us – my mashed potatoes were dry and lumpy, the carrots were not properly topped, the string beans seemed old, and the pie was tasteless with thin gravy. I would consider returning for drinks, but not for the food. It's always difficult to write negative reviews as they can have consequences, but honesty is important.

We had to wait longer for our food because we arrived early, even though the restaurant wasn't too busy. We waited for a total of 50 minutes on top of the initial half-hour wait. Unfortunately, the food didn't meet our expectations and seemed like it was reheated in the microwave. It would have been helpful to have an extra staff member to assist. We felt bad for the lady who was behind the bar, also serving as the waitress and helping in the kitchen.

We have been here several times before for our annual get together and had always received a warm welcome. However, today the owner/manager was very rude to us and would not serve several others who came in to have a meal even though there were plenty of empty tables . We will not return to this pub even though the food was good.
