We have stayed at the Hallmark The Queen hotel a couple of times and always been happy with the food and service in the restaurant, however, this time we stayed at the sister hotel across the road, breakfast was to be taken at The Kings Grill in The Queen. Breakfast itself was good but trying to get a cup of tea or coffee was abominable. We were seated quickly and told someone would be round with tea and coffee, help ourselves to the buffet breakfast, which was well stocked. We saw many people walking round with cups asking staff for tea and coffee, the couple on the table next to us had their cooked breakfast half eaten and still had not been given any tea or coffee. We've stayed at the Queen Chester hotel before and ate at the restaurant, was fantastic! So we chose to stay at this hotel again and booked a table online in advance. In short.. the restaurant was understaffed and we had to sit at the bar and wait to be seated for a while after a very luke warm welcome. We were then told that the menu we had seen on the website (and chosen the restaurant based on) wasn't available. The service was slow and by 9pm (we had booked for 8pm) the staff couldn't get us out of there quick enough. We weren't even brought the bill but were told to pay at the door on the way out. I've eaten at this restaurant regularly in recent months. The menu was maybe slightly limited, a touch expensive, but that was more than made up for by the fantastic staff and the excellent quality of the food. It was always a great experience. Now, the hotel has changed hands and a new menu has been introduced. More choice, and cheaper food, but definately not an improvement. Whereas previously you could have a chateaubriand carved at the table with some style, you can now have chicken wings and a burger. The staff must be devastated. What was previously a stylish restaurant is now serving generic pub grub. It's an absolute travesty.
We visited the restaurant as part of our hotel package, enjoying breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening. Both visits were very well organized, with knowledgeable and efficient staff. The breakfast was delicious and well-prepared, with a great variety on the buffet. There was a large line when we arrived, but it moved quickly as people were seated. The restaurant at the Hallmark Queen Hotel is where guests enjoy their breakfast and dinner. I checked the menu online and was initially disappointed to learn that it had recently changed. However, I was pleasantly surprised by my new choices of leek and potato soup (clearly homemade, not from a can) and Haddock Mornay. The seasoning was perfect, so there was no need to reach for salt and pepper. The staff were efficient and friendly, and I would definitely dine here again.
Decided to not go go far last night after staying in hotel for weekend. Had lovely 3 course meal last night. Just couple criticisms, the plates were so slippy on tables every time my husband cut into his steak the plate did a 90 degrees turn! Staff very attentive, just tad expensive I thought
Kara lounge and grill at Chafford hundred is a new restaurant we visited tonight. The food was amazing and the service we received from Benjamin and Stephanie was the best we ever had. We will definitely visit again when back in the area. And we wish them a the very best. Kim Dan.
