The Marc Restaurant

My husband and I went to The Marc for our anniversary dinner. We made a reservation for a Tuesday at 7:30pm and we arrived way too early at 6:45pm. We told the hostess that we were way too early and she replied with a smile on her face that our table was ready for us. She even asked to check my coat, which I haven't had this kind of service for awhile. The restaurant is located in a corner unit on the ground floor of an office building. It has its own entrance right beside the main entrance, without the need to navigate through the lobby. It's an older building with baseboard heater along the floor to ceiling windows. I always enjoy The Marc, the restaurant is simple, not stuffy. I have dined here many times, usually for lunch and it has always been excellent. The service has always been wonderful, they have some great people, friendly and attentive. And the food, I have never been disappointed. I love the Salad Nicoise and the Flatiron Steak, everything I have tried has been excellent. And the Creme Caramel, I rarely eat dessert, but whenever I am here I relish the Creme Caramel, it is simply perfect, and perfectly simple. Definitely worth a try.

My husband and I went to the Marc in anticipation of a really great dining experience after we had heard about it from other people. We walked in and I immediately thought the place lacked any personality and I noticed there were not any visible pictures on the walls. The tables were tightly packed. The service was good, but the meals mediocre for the higher price. I doubt I would ever go back as there are so many other great choices in the city to go to instead.

Highly recommended, we went there to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday - there were 4 of us. The soup of the day (Butternut Squash) was bland & only just warm. The small pot of cassoulet was again bland & the confit canard, although cooked well was served on a bed of lettuce!!!My wife's arctic char was served on a gooey pile of lentils (or something) & really not good.This place needs to try much harder for the price & work on the ambience also. Enjoyed a wonderful lunch on the patio. Tried the ceasar salad to start, then the salmon for the main course, and the chocolate cake for dessert with a nice glass of wine. Long relaxing lunch time meal. Obviously didn't have to go back to work that day. Very pleasant location and excellent food. Definitely hope to be back for a supper meal some time soon.

The service was fine. The food was pretty good to excellent with fair portions, good presentation, but a little spotty in terms of quality .... hence the "pretty good" ... the lamb chops were sort of greasy and a little tough .... the beef and fish dishes were quite good.

This is not your typical downtown, work day, lunch. The menu is very unique, the location very convenient, the staff very friendly and the food was terrific. The price was suprisingly low for the very tasty food.
