Four of us went to The Marlborough Head for lunch and ordered four meals. The woman behind the bar brought out cutlery for all of us, but then only three meals were brought to the table. After waiting for the fourth meal, we asked how long it would be, only to be told that they only had three meals on the order. We were then told that we had not ordered four meals, even though we clearly had. They said it would be a 25-minute wait for the fourth meal, but we couldn't wait as we were on a tight lunch schedule. The waitress showed no concern for the mistake and did nothing to try and fix it. The decor was shabby and dirty, and the restaurant was freezing cold. The customer service was nonexist...
Not a great place to visit. The beer prices are marked up quite highly compared to other places and the food distinctly average for the price. It 's a very 'cliquey ' place the bar staff (and some of the customers) 'look you up and down ' when you arrive. Very much a 'local for the locals '. The manager is always there, ever watchful, which can be quite unsettling. Yes, there 's history here, with lots of historic low beams etc. etc. But I found it an uncomfortable visit. And tough on the wallet. There are better places to go.
Went here just for drinks on a Friday evening. Positives: Really close to Rochford Train Station so no excuse for drink driving or need for expensive cabs home Great live music (The Poachers) Shows the football Toilets clean Close to Stavros Grill after a few too many pints! Negatives: Quite expensive (but understandable in cost of living crisis) Ran out of shot glasses so had a tequila in a jagerbomb glass! Small venue to don't expect a seat unless you get there early
The staff at the bar were decent, although slightly aloof, and the owner (a chubby, older man) was quite a character. We only stayed for one drink each and did not try any food. As someone new to the area, I found the Horse and Groom to have a more inviting atmosphere. It seems that Rochford used to have many pubs, but there are hardly any left now. I was informed that the Horse and Groom would be more my kind of welcoming pub.

Found this absolute gem close to the hotel we were staying in, fantastic ambience, extremely friendly and welcoming, would highly recommend a visit to any travellers in the area. Definitely go in for a meal, my steak as cooked to perfection! Mine host Alan couldn’t have been more friendly and the staff on our second visit just as friendly.
After reading recent reviews, I was a bit concerned about this restaurant. The atmosphere is very cliquey and loud, with regulars crowding the bar. The staff is not very friendly and the place has a musty smell that could use some attention. Overall, the experience was quite average and lacking in atmosphere, so I will not be returning.
I’m have recently moved to Rochford. The staff and owner have all welcomed me and my loved ones with open arms. The food is excellent every time and the beer is always so fresh and full of bubbles! The cleanliness is also too notch: you cannot fault this place x
Good atmosphere Friendly staff (latte) But don’t bother putting money in the jukebox because if the landlord don’t like it he skips your song!! Regardless if your there singing along!! What’s the point in having a jukebox

Lovely food, the manager was so lovely and welcoming and the regulars were also chatty. Shame about a couple of lads that spoiled it at the end having a row (beer induced) apart from that would defo go back
