The Modern Peasant

We walked off the ferry and walked into the Modern Peasant for lunch. Good move. Engaging owner/chef who has been there for about a year; fantastic food at reasonable prices. It was fairly busy for Wednesday lunch so reservations are probably a good idea-especially for dinner. The menu seems to change often e.g. the current on-line menu differs from the 'real ' one so you might want to check that out. We 're already looking forward to another ferry trip -but this time for the dinner menu. Highly recommended.

We started with the Ceasar Salad, it was perfect, I mean it gave new meaning to the first course. I forgot my glasses at home so did not get to read the liner notes but the meeting of it and my palet was poetry. The main course was.... and mainly because I have never had the pleasure of this dish Beef bourguignon was better than sex, I mean this was heaven with every meeting of my palet. We had it with Fries which is funny but hey it was perfect together! Heres my photo!

Gourmet meal in funky biker bar! If I hadn’t asked a guy on the street I would have never known Modern Peasant served it’s food in The Forest next door which is a newly renovated biker bar. I had read about Modern Peasant and wasn’t disappointed. Had the garlic mashed potatoes and braised short ribs and both were heavenly! They say it’s tapas style (read small portions) but it was a regular sized meal that I couldn’t finish. But tried my darnedest cause it was so yummy.

Dropped in for brunch (11am 2pm), was greeted by John, seated promptly, offered a beverage, then he took my order. The food came really quickly and, I'll tell you, I like omelettes and this one was the best I've ever had! This is a small place and the other guests were friendly which made it really delightful for chatting. Can't wait to go back again.

The food here is so good, but the owner is rude and chauvinistic. His comments towards patrons are unacceptable.
