Amazing little bar, like stepping into the past. Tons of history. Montanans and their guests have been swilling drinks here for well over 100 years, without much change in the decor (thankfully). When the lighting, music, service and the crowd all come together the Rathskeller is magic. Typically understaffed, the staff that does work here are friendly, helpful, and are doing their best. I hope they can get more help. Lately, for some reason, the staff has been turning all the lights on. Travesty. This is a place that should be dark, yet warm. I came here on a Friday night at around 9pm and there was literally only one party in the entire bar. I was even confused that they were closed or I was at the wrong place. This bar is located downstairs from the Montana Club close to Last Chance Gulch. My first drink was the Montana old fashioned $11) which uses Montana Trapline Rye from Glacier Distilling Company. It's on the sweeter side of an old fashioned because the trapline is already pretty sweet and then the sugar cube on top, but very drinkable. My second drink was the lady germain $11) which is slightly tart from the lemon but overall very balanced. I came here when it was basically completely empty but this seems like a cool spot...

The Montana Club is the bomb and the Rathskeller is where you want to start your evening in Montana's capital city. It's like being in a 1920s speakeasy-dark, shadowy spaces (but overall well lit), pressed leatherole walls (hey look it up) and great bands on the weekend. But you want a Rathskeller to deliver great cocktails. Home run! Perfectly balanced Old Fashioned created out of Montana Rye. Then stunning sidecars--the best I have had outside of Chicago. Awesome!!

I have actually never been here! Their schedule is not accurate it will say it's open online then you drive down there and they are closed I have attempted 3 times and I am over it.

It was a cool place. A nice quiet intimate place for after dinner drinks!
