Having been enticed by the come dine with us Table d'hôte menu in my room I booked a table for 8.30. I was looking at the menu presented in the restaurant and could see no sign of the 2 course £21.00 offer from my room, on challenging my waitress she said there was now a special Christmas menu which was £31 with no 2 course option, so in effect tough luck! Apparently other diners had the same issue, the message to management is do not leave menus in rooms if they are no longer valid! I asked to see the restaurant manager and to his credit he immediately agreed to provide the menu from the room. Personally I cannot see why the Christmas menu and the room menu cannot be run side by side, Chris...
I recently dined at the Old Mill restaurant for a family event (holy communion) with 5 adults and 1 child. The service was excellent, although there was a bit of a longer wait than usual, which was understandable given the current situation. The waiting staff were great and even included a lovely touch of a card for the communion child. The food we received was delicious and very tasty. However, I was disappointed with the portion sizes. We decided to forgo starters to fully enjoy our meals, but the portions were quite small. For example, the steak came with only 2 onion rings on top and a small bowl of chips (about 6 in total). I recently visited The Old Mill for dinner for the second time, and I was very impressed. The staff, as always, were exceptional. I enjoyed a delicious squid starter and a generous portion of chicken supreme for my main, accompanied by fondant potato and asparagus in a tasty sauce. I also indulged in a 500ml carafe of house wine. The total bill came to £21 for two courses and £12.50 for the wine. While I appreciated the fixed menu offered on certain nights, I would suggest adding some specials to keep things fresh for repeat visitors like myself. I was slightly disappointed that the menu remained the same as when I last visited in December.
After reading a review about small portions, my girlfriend and I decided to try out the restaurant for ourselves. We started with garlic bread and chicken goujons, which were delicious. The mains arrived and we were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions. I had the Sirloin with Chips and she had the chicken Maryland with champ, both of which were fantastic. The meal was perfect and priced at around £80, which we felt was reasonable. We will definitely return for another try at the steak!

We had meal whilst staying in the hotel, 7 golfers on a weekend away. Service was excellent and the food was also excellent. We have the table d'hote menu and the selection was good and lots of food was presented... leave plenty of room for this meal to do it justice! Everyone complimented the meal and thought I would leave a review to say so.
great place for family’s friends r just that quiet breakfast staff are amazing noughting they wont do to help such a relaxing evening and food was to die for cant wait going again in december
Food was amazing ,ordered an egg sandwich and it was packed full of filling.staff very very helpful and really courteous.Canal hotel you should be so proud of all your staff

Pleasant surroundings good food and very good value. Staff are very pleasant attentive and the service is of a high standard. Would recommend.
Had a wonderfully hearty breakfast in the canal court everything was delicious nicely cooked and warm
