I don’t even know where to begin! We booked here for our Christmas party 03/12/21 and we’re greeted with a mismatched table of glasses filled with Buck’s Fizz? And ushered into a large room which was decorated nicely with a grand tree in the corner and tables for around 200 guests. Each guest paying £30! Yes £30!! At around 7.30 we were ushered to our tables for what can only be described as the worst food I have eaten in many years! I am a chef by trade but moved to the NHS but still keep up with food trends and know how food suppliers work and what they charge. I would have to physically try to produce food that bad! Whoever bought or made that food snd thought it fit for human consumption...
Me and my girlfriend were recently gifted a voucher for afternoon tea by family and we were super excited to go to such a posh establishment and wind down together for a couple of hours. Upon arrival, reception told us to go through the corridor to the room on our left. When we arrived, the room was unstaffed and we were stood there about 5 minutes before being told to sit. We were given a pot of tea to start and our sandwich order was taken swiftly. I ordered the beef and horseradish sandwiches and the chicken and stuffing. We stayed for the weekend as part of a large party which also took in the party night at the Hotel on the Saturday night. It’s a lovely old building with loads of original and ornate fittings, but does show its age in places. Reception and check in were super quick with the party been given express check in so we did not block up reception for everyone else, our room was nice, looked quite recently decorated with a relatively new Bathroom. The ceiling had been wallpapered as part of the redecoration and already you can see a couple of rolls beginning to come away from the ceiling. I have visited Harrogate many times over the years and always choose to stay at this lovely hotel. The building is beautiful and easy to spot as you drive towards it. Parking at the back of the hotel was convenient at £7 per night. I opted for the 2-night dinner and breakfast package with an upgraded room. Check-in was smooth and Szonia was very kind and helpful. My room was spacious on the first floor, with a nice sized bathroom, although it was strange to look out the window and see ground level! The bar area was cozy with comfortable seating and reasonably priced. Dinner on both nights was from a special menu with plenty of options. I paid a little extra for the steak and it was worth it....

We booked a 3-night stay at this hotel and on the first night, we both ordered the shoulder of lamb for dinner. When it arrived, it looked overcooked and I have never seen lamb served in that shape before. I decided not to eat it, but my wife ate it and ended up getting sick all night. We brought this up the next day, but nobody apologized or offered any resolution. The menu remained the same every evening, which was quite monotonous for a supposed 4-star hotel. This was the second time we have stayed here both times were for my works Christmas party,Most people thought that it was a lot better last year as this time the atmosphere was not as good and the dj was terrible,he hardly played any Christmas songs and most of the other music was not what you would want at a party. The food was ok but not very much on the plates (same as last year) and the service was very slow and unorganised. The hotel itself has lots of character and is in an ideal location within walking distance into town.
Another fantastic New Year at The Old Swan Hotel, we have stayed here many times before and are always pleased to return, stayed 2 nights for the New Year which was well organised, the meals were superb, the staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Our room was a good size, clean, a powerful shower with the usual selection of shower gels/shampoo. Kettle with tea coffee provided. We will most certainly be staying here again.
As guests at the hotel, we enjoyed breakfast and dinner here. The food is very good and plentiful and wine by the bottle is of a good quality. Staff are attentive. The restaurant is a traditional wood panelled room with a beautiful patterned glass ceiling which makes for a relaxed atmosphere.
