We have had dinner at this restaurant three times this year and the first two times we were well received by the owner, had Lenny as a very hospitable server and were fairly satisfied with the meals, we stuck with tried and true, the prime rib, lamb, salmon, and filet mignon. The French onion soup is always a winner.However, this past weekend we were part of a 22 person family function on a Tuesday evening. This time the meals were just average, sometimes below. This restaurant makes an attempt to offer upscale dining, but falls short in several aspects. My wife and I are regulars at fine dining establishments in Toronto and Oakville, and were disappointed by the atmosphere, service, and food at Olde School restaurant. Upon arrival for Sunday brunch, we were questioned about having a reservation, even though there were plenty of open tables. The menu was lackluster, with odd fixed price options that didn't seem to pair well together. The atmosphere felt forced, with servers overdressed and constantly interrupting our meal to offer more beverages. By fluke discovered this quasi out of the way restaurant, and glad I did. Had a delicious dinner and the decor is wild. The restaurant is a blast from the past it is certainly old school but that works in its favour. If you are looking for hip, modern decor all in white and uncomfortable chairs, with an oh so trendy menu, then this isn 't the place for you. But if you like grand older decor, and a menu where you actually know what the ingredients are, then you 'll enjoy. I imagine this is the Special Occasion restaurant in the Brantford/Paris area birthday, anniversary, etc, but it made a nice average Tuesday night dinner very above average.
Visited here recently and was quite underwhelmed considering the reviews and price point. Service was quite impersonal and slow. One of the two appetizers we ordered never came, and when the entrees arrived without the sides the menu claims are included (soup or salad), the waitress made it seem as though it was our fault for not asking for it. Since when do you need to request the full meal? Desserts weren't anything to write home about either. Overall not a restaurant I would recommend to others due to the variety of issues we encountered.
Fantastic service and great food! We went for mine and my friends birthday dinner with a group of 6. They were very attentive and the meals for the 2 birthdays came with a complimentary dessert with candles and sparklers! I see many reviews on this site complaining about the buffet and how they won't come back. Buffets are not the best way to try out a restaurant, in my opinion. If you haven't been here for a lunch or dinner then you are missing out!
I had an incredible experience at this restaurant. The service was exceptional, with Lenny even going above and beyond by giving us a tour and history of the school house. The food was excellent, and it's rare to find a restaurant with both high-quality food and service like this nowadays. If you are in or near SW Ontario, I highly recommend stopping in. The nostalgic atmosphere is truly unique.
