We visited the Palomino on a Wednesday afternoon about 2:00. The restaurant was neat and I imagine it could be fun during a Friday lunch hour or after work. The music was classic country from the 70's/80's while we were there....which we enjoyed. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant. I realize it's an old building but the ceiling was filthy and needs a thorough cleaning. There were "dust bunnies" hanging in a number of places which really turned me off. We ordered the large platter ($74) and overall it was disappointing. The brisket was great, the apples were delicious and the bacon wrapped corn on the cob was pretty good too. Everything else on the platter lacked flavor (pulled pork, chicken, beans, coleslaw, grits, garlic fries). Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and made our visit enjoyable. It is unlikely that I would return to Palomino and not sure I'd recommend to my friends. :(

We decided to visit after I saw this restaurant featured on "You Gotta Eat Here." Entering, I was a bit surprised at how dated the main floor was (never went downstairs). The only washroom on that level was non gender specific, again out dated, but held a single facility so it was private. Our meals didn't disappoint. I had the beef brisket and my dining partner the pulled pork. Both lived up to our expectations as did the service. The bourbon apple side dish has me searching the web to find the recipe. It's delicious! I will consider returning on my next visit to Calgary.

Came here expecting some great BBQ and ended up with a half rack of very dry ribs. Caesar salad was good - had some full cloves of oven roasted garlic which was nice. Service was mediocre. Would've been nice to get a smile, even a fake one. For the price, not worth a second visit.

Great atmosphere and good service. Drinks and food arrived promptly and the selection of beer and bourbon is respectable. The quality of the food is uneven. Brisket and pulled pork, great. Ribs and sausage, dry and disappointing.
