The place has a good buzz in the evening, some good beers, it does food well too. the pub have the potential to be one of the best around, great location, one of the best menus in London for its class, comfy and formal seating, and a good vibe both a buzz in the evenings and chilled informal lounge during the day. it should be packed more often. Its not becuase packed more often because when the do real ale its almost always turned, and sour. In fact I've never has a fresh real ale in my time here over the past 15 year, ever. Interesting conversion of the Denmark Hill station building into a gastropub. Certainly plenty of room when my three pals and I visited on a weekday lunchtime. It was a very dull day outside and pretty gloomy indoors too. Hoping for a decent range of real ales, we were disappointed to find that one had just gone off, another was yet to come on which left only Doom Bar as the rather unappealing single option. However, we were encouraged by a menu of tempting pub faves. My mates each went for the sausage and mash and had no complaints whatsoever. Just stopped off at the Phoenix for a drink after visiting an exhibition in Peckham. I had never been before despite living in the area. I browsed the menu which looked rather good so I ordered some halloumi chips to eat with my glass of wine. A generous plateful arrived with a little pot of chilli jam. The chef had taken the trouble to sprinkle the halloumi with chopped parsley which was a nice touch. I plan to go back sometime soon for lunch.
My girlfriend and I ordered the sausage and mash and the couscous salad. We had the salad with pesto instead of the humous as my girlfriend doesnt like it. It was really good. They had no problem making the change to the dish. We had the Deya craft beer and a hot Winter Pimms. We never had either before but both were very nice. We also noticed while paying that they do a 20% discount for NHS staff. So nice to see that

Booked a table for a Sunday Toast, always unsure when having a pub roast but was pleasantly surprised. We asked for the beef to be served medium, potato’s were cooked perfectly. The Yorkies were amazing and I was tempted to ask the chef how he gets them so big. Would recommend.
Over cooked, over priced, almost burnt chicken burger. I tried to tell the wait staff that it was over cooked, but he didn't understand and just smiled, so I gave up. But it was not good. The lovely lady behind the bar was the only positive. She was very friendly.
I came in as I missed my train and it was baltic outside. I then saw a Hot Drinks Menu- that was me settled in for a while. I sat in front of the big screen projector watching the Arsenal game until my next train. Cheers guys. Will see you again soon
Another visit to this lovely station pub and it didn’t disappoint. Food was spot on and came out quickly. Tried the cocktail menu this time and they have a nice selection.

Just had lunch and it was fab. Had the sausage and mash, which was epic. Chicken, Ham and Leek pie was amazing. Will definitely be visiting again
Amazing!! Will return. Whole team were fantastic. Great sandwich deal, that came with a drink. Really excellent value.
