Was here today for a catch up lunch with my friend and had my 2 year old little boy with me too. He very quickly got bored with our chat and started playing up. So the lovely people working stepped into help. The lady asked if she could take him for a wee walk round the garden, off he went instantly on his little adventure to the garden and to explore round the pub, then the gentleman took him to meet their lovely dog where he got to feed him biscuits. My little boy absolutely loved it and I got to eat my lunch hot. Now this is what I call amazing!!! I can not thank them enough and I will sure be back... the food was lovely too!
What a fantastic meal! We booked a table for 13 (mix of adult as and kids). We were given a warm welcome. Food was delicious . Not one complaint. Fresh and all appeared to be made from scratch. Steak pie was outstanding, burgers massive, the carvery was the best we’ve ever had and surf and turf cooked to perfection! As for the desserts well the mini sundaes were bigger than expected, chocolate fudge cake amazing and the aero cheesecake was light and so tasty. The chefs must have had their work cut out when we walked in but they done themselves proud. Would highly recommend.
During our holiday in the area, we made a reservation at this restaurant as they said it was necessary, but we were surprised to find it empty with only us dining there. The menu was labeled as the spring menu, even though it was already July. The limited choices left us settling for dishes we did not really want. The atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming, feeling more like an empty aircraft hangar than a restaurant. We were disappointed with our experience and will not be coming back.
Used to love coming here for a meal , food has definitely gone downhill since my last visit before lockdown , menu was just ridiculous but ok if you wanted a burger , steak pie has always been my favourite but even that wasn’t that good , hot choc fudge cake was certainly not hot , don’t think we will be back

My family and I went for Christmas Dinner at this restaurant. We had a 3 course meal priced at £60 per person. The food was very bland and the vegetables were hard. The Turkey did not seem to be real, possibly processed. There was no atmosphere and overall, it was not worth the money.
The food is comfort food, I always loved it before. Now I'm vegetarian, the only thing on the entire menu to eat was macaroni cheese. No vegan options either. The staff are accommodating and it's great for families. Unfortunately as the restaurants not very versatile, I won't be back.
its been a while since we visited the portcullis ,and we were not disappointed ,today is the 30 dec 2021 we were there for a bar lunch . the service was very good ,food,well we could not fault 'good servings ' and hot .if back in Arbroath and needing fed ,would go back .
My experience at this restaurant was terrible. The service was awful, there was hair in the food, and the owner had body odor. The manager and owner both had bad attitudes. I would never go back there again.

Felt the service poor ,and food wasn't up.too scratch gone down hill ..staff speak about customers not very professional..
Not been here for a while. Loving the new decor/set up. Food and portions excellent. Staff were so friendly and helpful.
