The Porter House Pub & Grill

A friend and I wanted to have lunch at this newly opened pub/restaurant. Situated right next to Uster Bahnhof, the Porter House replaced the Red Ochre Grill which was a staple in town for quite some years. As we entered and asked if we could eat, there was only a ghoulish bartender roughly telling us; "Restaurant, left side!" Ok... So we went to their "terrace" overlooking Uster Bahnhof, had a seat and even though it's a non smoking section, immediately noticed (i.e. smelled) someone behind us smoking cigars. Ok...well I was then told that unfortunately it was already 2pm so the kitchen was closed and we could only pick from the snack menu. Understandable, we were quite late for lunch. The s...

Having left a previous review for the bar, I now want to comment on their restaurant. After eating in here around four times, I can say that the food is outstanding. I dont eat steak but my friends do and they said the meat was perfect, one even said it was the best he'd ever tried. Ive had their fish and chips and it is spot on, just as good as back in the UK. The highlight for me is their cottage pie, it is incredible and dare I say it, as good as the one I can make at home. Huge portions, delicious food, i am a very happy customer. Well done Porter House!!

OK you've read the other reviews, the prices are higher than when it was the Red Ochre, its Switzerland get used to it. What this appears to have achieved is that the teenage kids who used to sit about in the corners on their phones all night with 1 beer, have gone, hurrah. Nice mixed clientele, great after-work atmosphere with professionals now. Food is wonderful and plentiful, ambience and decor is fabulous, so authentic. I love the brit-pop and classic rock which is played in the bar, takes me back to my UK days. Well done TBH, you did a great job!!

Basically OK. Tonight was a bit unlucky as the waiter was in an EXTREMELY bad mood. He was then replaced and the rest of the staff, service and kitchen made up for it. I had a well prepared tartare that was also very attractively presented. We were there as a group of around 40 people. 2 months later all OK. A bit warm and stuffy, a ceiling fan or two would definitely help. Would definitely go again. Price per person: CHF 40–50 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Fish N ’chips Legendary

Das Beste Rindsfilet, dass man in der Umgebung kriegen kann und das zu einem absolut fairen Preis. Die Bedienung ist super freundlich und schnell und das Essen wirklich sehr sehr gut. Der gemischte Salat war so lecker mit dem Hausdressing. Macht weiter so! Price per person: CHF 60€“70 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Smelly, dirty and attended by a cocky waiter who believes is Tom Cruise in the cocktail movie however his manners are terrible. Also grabs your drink lemon with his hands after touching all his face. Forget it go somewhere that doesn’t pretend to be what is not Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Great night! Fab music Definitely worth a visit...... Chicken wings try them!! Near t lovely atmosphere Live music the night I visited.... Adjacent to the train station if you sit outside you could be in a train!!!

Went there for a beer and some fries. The portions are big enough and come at faire price considering zurich. Quite some choice in beer, cosy place where you can be inside or outside. Next to the train station

Very nice place to eat and meet friends. Outdoor and inside nicely furnished. Live Music and events have been held regularly.
