We ate dinner here on Friday evening. The restaurant opens at 7pm. On check in at the hotel we were not asked if we'd like a table in the restaurant.The staff appeared to have good intentions but lacked training. For example they couldn't answer simple questions (e.g. could something from the lounge menu be served in the restaurant or what ale was available). Between us we had a few main courses the belly pork was fatty and not crispy, so very disappointing. Fish pie was ok, but nothing special and the beef was ok. It seemed quite expensive for what it was. Poor choice of non alcoholic beverages. Quite amusing to watch some of the scenarios...the staff bring in a party of 6 to a table with 4...
Doubt anyone will be staying here again until all the government asylum seekers have left, however, it’s really in need of maintenance work in many places inside and out pealing paint rubbish and full skip in the car park, large potholes on the main drive. Leaking issues, non functional hand dryers and no paper towels, disabled toilets full of baby chairs. A total opposite to my last visit and review shame.

it's a castle! you're sleeping in a castle! nothing else matters... Rooms are small and staff a bit distant, but no one cares: it's a castle!
The meal was strange. We were seated in a narrow hallway, but the food was decent, although rather simple.
So beautiful, and you can really feel the history. It’s like being transported back in time.
The ambiance is magical, the food is delicious, and the price is excellent value for money.
