An extremely disappointing experience. It took 10 minutes to get offered a menu and we had to ask if we could order drinks. We ordered food at the same time, given it took so long. The food took 1 hour to come out and when we chased, we spoke to a manager who wasn’t helpful at all. No apology for the delay and he didn’t even come back and update us. The main courses were really small and presented really badly. Not one staff member checked in on us to see how our food was. When paying the bill, no gesture was offered to make it right, we were told there were a chef down. Overall a really bad experience. Price per person: £40–50 Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1
Whilst we had a lovely evening, I wouldn't rush back. I was gutted the fish pie, which was divine, and was no longer on the menu. The food was average and didn't reflect well on the prices charged. If I compare it to the Malt Shovel or the lovely pubs at similar pricing, it wouldn't fare well. A real shame as the owners are lovely, warm, and welcoming. We ate here last night, fab food and service. A slight issue was more than professionally dealt with. Fab service and it was a nice touch that the manager and owner came over for a chat. We had chicken schnitzel and pork belly, lovely. Very disappointing visit for a Birthday treat... Dining area shabby and draughty... Front of house staff very pleasant but food service extremely slow... Quality of food left a lot to be desired, of the 8 dishes we ordered no one was satisfied with their meal. Certainly will not be returning or recommending. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Great place for a Sunday roast. Been a few times during the week and the food has always been pretty good too. Usually seen a nice couple of ales as well which is always welcome. Timmy Taylor and Brakspear last time if I remember rightly. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
First visit to the Railway Inn for Sunday lunch. Had a roast trio which was delicious. Very tasty, lots of meat, traditional trimmings. Would recommend. Price per person: £30–40 Recommended dishes: Roast Beef
