Went in to buy a coffee and used the restroom first. A staff member came out while I was going in. Toilet rolls sit on top of the dispensing unit and paper towel sits on top of a baby change table that has a dirty and stained receiving blanket covering the pad. Dirty sink, with a layer of dark dust surrounding it! I then went to the counter to order whilst wondering about the hygiene/sanitation of the cook area if bathrooms are not attended to. Old coffee stains/residue all on counters around the till. I could not be confident in ordering anything after seeing the dirty way they are keeping this cafe. The cheesy potato soup that I got was realllly good and served with a piece of focaccia bread. It was yummy with the iced vanilla latte I got, which the espresso was ground in front of me (rare in coffee shops in my experience). The bookstore mainly had used books, but they were decent prices. The cafe had local art on the walls, which was nice to look at and nice to see them supporting the local artists. Both sides of the Reading Room had very friendly staff. My reason for not giving it an Excellent review is that I noticed it could have been a bit cleaner...
We have only been here once and only for coffee and a snack. My husband and I both had an Americano coffee which was good as the beans were freshly ground, however, our friends just had a regular coffee from one of the urns. I think it may have been sitting too long as they found it to be a bit bitter. As far as snacks go, there was virtually no choice - a couple of muffins and a few cookies although the cookie was good. It is definitely not much to look at inside but it is interesting being attached to the used book store.
A wonderful treasure to find! Great food, the soup of the day is tasty and the sweets are a treat. It is "serve yourself" style but they will bring your order to the table. It has a WiFi spot so you can catch up on messages. We were very pleased with the place and would recommend taking a look in the Bookstore as well. They have local art and postcards. My husband and I were on a house hunting trip and decided to sign our accepted offer at the Reading Room Bookstore and Cafe. We were pleasantly surprised by the great food (soup was delicious), excellent service from the lovely ladies both in the bookstore and the cafe and the relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely return to this lovely little place
Our family loves coffee & reading. Putting the two together as far as we are concerned is awesome!We were so looking forward to the Lavender latte & the Candies ginger espresso frappe. They sounded delicious. However they need more flavour sad to say, we enjoyed them but not as much as we could.The place was friendly & clean with great service.
