No way is this 4* (4.5* on Google! . We tried here since live in the area, never been and has good reviews. Lunch menu had nothing on it that any of us really fancied, just seemed limited. There was enough options for a lunch menu but it was just bland and similar things. Took ages for us to give the order, seemed like they didn't really know what they were doing, not a big deal but lots of small things add up. The village pub is charming and we were greeted warmly by a young staff member. The eating area was a bit cold but nicely decorated. Our food arrived lukewarm but still edible. Unfortunately, after that initial interaction, we didn't see any other staff members. No one checked on our meal or offered us more drinks or dessert. We had to initiate everything ourselves. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so it seems like the young staff member was left to run the pub on their own. It's a shame because there is a lot of potential here, but it seems like profit isn't a priority. It's odd because there is another successful pub in the same village that values training their young staff.
After reading the reviews we were looking forward to eating here. What disappointment to say it was one of the worse meals I have had for a long time. The table we were originally seated at we were on top of the other tables either side and couldn’t have a conversation. Really noisy, to the point we asked to move tables. Then we they finally took our order, 2 mains meals we wanted to order were unavailable. Could understand if it was later in the evening however our table was booked for 7pm. One if the mains we couldn’t eat, then we ordered deserts to find out they had run out of that. Would not recommend
It has been a long time since we were last here but had heard good reviews so decided to try it again. We were not disappointed as we immediately received a very warm welcome and excellent service. The ambiance of the pub was good and the ‘real ales’ I had were very good and well kept. There was a good selection of pub food on the lunchtime menu which was of a good quality. We dined here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Despite the menu being restricted owing to delivery problems we were able to choose some lovely food and thoroughly enjoyed it. The whitebait in particular was delicious and we would recommend this lovely little restaurant for any occasion. Good sized portions and well cooked dishes. Special thanks to Alex our charming young waiter.
