We’ve recently moved to Saltburn and ironically one of the first programmes we watched on tv in our new home was Fred and Nadia’s visit to The Sea View.We had visited The Sea View back in and had a superb fish and chip lunch, and all washed down with an excellent French rose wine.Now the renovations were complete and it was time to enjoy the “ new look” restaurant. First impressions were fabulous, and once they finish their outside tiki bar area it will be amazing being able to enjoy drinks overlooking those stunning views!Ok, now onto the main reason we came back, the fayre.Two of us had the fish and chips whilst the others had the famous brioche. Honestly, I was let down. I would love to watch the programme again, and indeed watch the part where Fred and Nadia went into the kitchen to watch chef prepare the brioche, because if my memory serves me right ours didn’t look like theirs!The fish and chips were good, and the tartare sauce excellent.As for the wine list, it was so sad to see only one rose wine on their list. Considering it’s a seaside town with the majority of diners on holiday in the sunshine, I was rather let down that the only offering is one of the most commercial roses known to man, Pinot Grigio. At the beginning of my review I mentioned that we had visited in when , no disrespect to the restaurant, but it certainly wasn’t in the same league that it is today, but we enjoyed a wonderful dry French rose, so where’s that? Or where is a rose choice?We went for the the Picpoul, which I’m afraid to say came to the table at near room temperature, needless to say we had to ask for ice cubes to put in our glasses. This shouldn’t have to happen, and this needs addressing.The overall decor is wonderful, the toilets first class, and the staff are a credit to the restaurant. But please address the wine situation, and the “ renowned “ brioche, because as I say, it’s nothing like what was put in front of Fred and Nadia!
The view and location makes this a very popular restaurant. We put our name down at and had to wait a round an hour for a table. They have a good menu and wine list. The fish dishes were very good with well cooked fish such as Halibut , mussels, sea Bass, scallops and more. All dishes were prepared well . I was surprised that most people were just ordering fried fish and chips which was a bit of waste given the other excellent dishes on the menu in my opinion. There is a take way section down below which sells the same fish and chips probably cheaper. Why go to a fish restaurant and order fish and chips it is beyond me. Service was good and the staff were very friendly despite being very busy. Keep up the good work.
Everything was perfect. The cod was freshly cooked and the “small”portion filled the plate! The service was excellent friendly,helpful staff with a sense of humour. We had asked for a window table and were not disappointed as we watched a variety of dogs with their people enjoy the beach and the promenade not to mention 3 hardy ladies in training for a marathon swim! No one should visit Saltburn without sampling this remarkable restaurant.
