We walked in via the pub where there were a handful of customers and 2 bar staff chatting to them. No one acknowledged us so we went up to the restaurant. Many things were very good; the decor, the amiable staff, the tasty starters but a couple of things let it down. Although it was Mothering Sunday we managed to get a last minute booking. Initially we had a very good experience with attentive, friendly staff. However, after very good starters our table wasn’t cleared until they brought our mains, which is never good. Also most of the accompanying veg were practically raw (broccoli, sugar snap peas, carrots) and all of us left half a plate of veg. Sorry to say this fell well below expectations based on previous visits. To be fair the staff were very good. The menu has changed and almost everything apart from the desserts was bland, limp and tasteless. This we were surprised at and it all appeared prepackaged. We were sold the prawn appetizer was hot and spicy, well someone got that wrong. The pate was hard to find under a thick layer of fat and was well below pate previously served here. Main dishes looked unappetizing, meats were dry and over cooked, weirdest Yorkshire puddings ever served and vegetables just horrible. I stayed one night at this restaurant, including breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately, the breakfast was disappointing as you had to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. The village and room were great, but the service at the restaurant was the worst I've ever experienced. I ordered the chef's special sausage and mash, which was bland and the gravy tasted like dishwater. Overall, the food seemed cheaply made, which was a letdown considering the nice location and rooms. I would recommend avoiding eating at this restaurant, as my experience was not good.

We’ve been to the star inn twice now on our second visit decided to have lunch. The first visit was one of our many visits to new pubs , since our move upto Leicestershire we just had a drink. The lunch we had was excellent reasonably priced. There was an excellent choice on the menu a fantastic outdoor seating area. The choice of drinks is wide and varied but for me the bass was definitely a winner. Add to that warm friendly staff we’ve found another excellent pub
The food was excellent at this restaurant. I had the ribeye steak, which was delicious, and my husband enjoyed the full rack of baby ribs. Everything we ordered was served hot. We were impressed by the staff's knowledge of the menu. A young server, who was cheerful and helpful, took care of us. We will definitely be returning.
We booked this pub for lunch at the last minute as we wanted a country pub between Leicester and Nottingham rather than a branded chain in town. Outstanding pub lunch, generous portions and really friendly (and funny) bar staff. We will be back!
I felt sorry for the 2 members of staff the restaurant and bar was busy but no sign of management to help. We were there for 3 hours for 2 course dinner we ordered dessert but after 30 min wait decided not to bother the service was just so slow

Lovely village pub, friendly staff and nice atmosphere........great gin selection. Will return again for longer when next in the area
Great menu for those with gluten sensitivities and more – we all loved the fish and chips. We will definitely be returning!
