I was ok with this place when they seriously thinned out their dinner menu. It still served its purpose as a solid local spot with a decent patio and and alright beer selection. What I was not ok with was when my 3 friends and I (only about 2 drinks deep might I add) were asked to leave at 1:30 because "the place wasn't busy enough". Last I checked that wasn't our problem. Backing up a bit, we were told that last call was going to be at 1AM due to the place being slow. Fine. Whatever. 5 of us visited the Stone Lion this past weekend. It's a nice little bar in the Beaches, with two patios with decent shade - perfect for hanging out and enjoying a pint while people watching, but unfortunately, the service ruined it for us.After receiving our drinks, and a first plate, 30-45 mins passed without any mains arriving. When we asked our waitress assured us that the food would be right out, but then returned 5 mins later to say that one of the dishes was sold out and we had to order something else.At this point, we simply paid for our drinks and left - there is no way it should have taken 45 mins to find out that what we ordered wasn't available. First time eating here. June 11, beautiful day. Checked in to inquire the wait time for a table on the patio. Told about 30 minutes. Almost decided to go elsewhere. Hostess said we could wait there or walk the street and she'd phone when a table was ready. Thought that sounded good. After about 20 minutes she called and said our table was ready! Ordered chicken and waffles which was top notch! Savoured every bite! Also had the bacon mac & cheese. Also excellent. Looked at the dessert menu. I love self-guided walking tours of different neighbourhoods in Toronto. It's a fun way to explore all of the unique areas of the city. This month, my husband and I checked out The Beach and it was wonderful! We ended the day at the Stone Lion - they had an eye-catching (and large) patio, and a decent drink & food menu suitable for us both. While the vegetarian options were slim, I was able to eat well!! I have lived in the neighborhood fro years and avoided this place like the plague for a long time!They have renovated. in the last year service has done a 360 and they are pleasant and cordial. Old staff was cranky and whiny all the time. Food: is pretty good.Live music and dancing: super fun!Will be back!
