Went yesterday with a couple of friends expecting a wonderful lunch and pleasant atmosphere, as was the case on numerous previous occasions, only to be greeted with an empty restaurant (red flag 1 . We walked up to the bar to ask if they were open and were told yes, and to go sit wherever, menus are on the left, come order and pay at the bar because there is no table service as it 's apparently 'fully booked ' even though it was empty save for one other table (red flag 2 . We chose a table (which looked like it hadn 't been wiped down properly red flag 3 , looked through the menus and went to order I wanted the mixed meat Sunday roast (beef, pork, chicken and lamb only to be told it comes up...
Reluctant to visit after our last experience but we are glad we did. First thing we noticed was the car park and the tidiness of the area. Inside was well laid out and bright. At the bar we were greeted with a smile and answers to our questions, yes dogs are allowed and food is available. The food was excellent, looking at the menu I thought the prices were a little high, but the descriptions were mouth watering. So a steak and a salmon we ordered... looked even enticing and tasted sooo delicious. Drinks were excellent too. To top it off there is a quiz night too.
I’ve been drinking in here since it was The Maypole many years back and it certainly went down hill in the end. Hopefully whoever gets hold of this place going forward will reopen it as the casual boozer that everyone wants in Wilford Village. A pool table, jukebox and some decent pub grub is all it takes. They pitched it to the wrong crowd when opening it as the Tailors Arms. The place has so much potential. I hope to see it open again soon.
WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. One of the greatest scams of all time, all the good reviews are from before it was closed. Burnt burger, missing items from the roast (meat and roast potatoes), awful service, told no table service as it was ‘fully booked’ yet no people here. Empty which is always a bad sign, funeral atmosphere, awful pints, scary stuff. Please take this warning seriously. Food: 1

Terrible experience paid for food I haven’t eaten due to incorrect menu and then laughed at by the chef and challenged by staff, who aren’t dressed appropriately or cohesively not to bothered by that however big change from the last management. Saddened no longer able to enjoy my local I’d recommend the Dorset Arms as an alternative. Price per person: £20–30

A 5 star review for Charlie behind the bar on Saturday eve (Nov 2023). The pub is waiting for new tenants so is lacking in the full drink selection and atmosphere but Charlie did everything to look after us. Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3
