"This hotel dates from 1626 I recall and its appeal is just that. Old and charming this is quite a grand hotel, and sits proudly in the middle of Oundle. Plenty of parking to the rear of the hotel, with good access back I to the hotel. I had a room located in an annexe and it was very nicely appointed. Breakfast was excellent in the morning."

We used to live near Oundle 25 years ago, and were looking around to find a restaurant where we could meet friends just before the Christmas break who were travelling from Northampton. When we arrived we were shown to our table, and from the almost hostile dismissive 'welcome should have walked out there and then. In short the service was incredibly slow and poor, I ordered the blade of beef on horseradish mash with red cabbage. When it arrived I thought they had forgotten to place the beef, but on investigation I found some. It was so small I thought I had become a vegetarian without asking! My wife 's was just the same. The mash was tepid, and hardly flavoursome. In all disgraceful. Our friends meal was similarly poor. Our friend ordered the cheese board. I have never seen such a rediculously small amount of chees and heavily over priced. I could go on but hope you have got the message........avoid like the plague unless you are happy to get totally ripped off for a very poor meal. To add insult to injury they even added a service charge into the bill. Honestly i have had far better meals in both quality and quantity in my mother 's care home.

I’ve been frequenting the Talbot for over 12 years and the building is stunning. The location is beautiful but there are more flaws than positives of late. Staffing levels have fallen so poorly they cannot offer the service the destination requires. Went for Sunday lunch with friends yesterday. Was told there would be a 45 min wait as we had not booked, we could have a couple of drinks first, no problem. The actual wait was over 2 hours whilst the place wasn’t that busy. When the food actually arrived, my beef was so tough. It’s snapped in half and that’s not exaggeration. The owners either have to sell up or invest some money in staff numbers and training. This is the first time I’ve ever been compelled to come onto Tripadvisor, and leave a review in any shape or form. The fact this meal and drinks cost four adults and three children over £400 is a disgrace and I shouldn’t really have paid my bill for the food. This place deserves better than the current owners who should hang their heads in shame.

Terrible food. Hardly any selection. £25 for a chicken burger? I don't think so. There's more to Vegan life than Linda McCartney sausages, £16 for the vegan meal sausage mash!! also would have been nice if they were cooked properly. Waiting staff failed to offer us information on the food had to get management involved. Wont be coming back to this place. Breakfast was not cooked properly and I was ill afterwards.

the evening meal for two was an excellent one that surpassed the expected surpass. some interesting dishes on the menu: for the main thing was the ochsenwange tasty, tender and with a delicious jus, while the numb with noodles was also very good. However, the treacle disc should contain treacle, not only sirup. beautiful dining room in an old hotel and excellent service by eliza.
