We were disappointed with our visit to the restaurant for my Fathers Birthday. The staff were very stressed, even snapping when we asked for something saying they were doing something else. The starters came out and on both the sharing platters the bread was stale and rubbery which was replaced . The main meals came out with one being pie and mash but it was sent with chips so that was sent back. The pies were awful, the pastry just wasn’t right and it was dry and the seafood platter was inedible as it was cooked so much it was dry. I know The Wateringbury well. I’m no local but as a family, we do visit regularly for drinks, lunch and or dinner. Without fail, you can see they try hard. We’ve had some great food. And on occasions when it’s been busy, we have had the odd dish not quite right. Always, when raised politely with the staff, they have resolved with good grace. Pubs are under pressure and in decline and closing everyday. I do wish some people would appreciate what they have before writing petit, small minded negative reviews and treat hospitality workers with respect rather than treating them as servants and barking requests in a rude manner which we have witnessed all too often.
During our trip to our vacation spot, we stopped by this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff. They kindly showed us to the dog-friendly section, both inside and outside, and even provided treats, bowls, and blankets for our furry companion. The food was excellent and we were truly impressed. It's a pity this restaurant is located far away from our home, otherwise we would definitely become regular customers.
My friends and I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and made us feel at home. The food was delicious and tasted homemade. The atmosphere was great, and we left feeling happy and satisfied. I highly recommend stopping by Wateringbury, whether for a quick drink or a bite to eat while you're in the area. Overall, a fantastic pub.
First time of visiting and we think it will not be the last. The staff were very attentive, checking up to see if everything was OK, did we need anything else. The steak in the mixed grill was very tender and for a chain of pubs surpasses those of the Whitbread franchise who serve tough steak. The manageress was hands on and polite, with a great sense of humour. Thank you all
8 of us visited for my husbands birthday, have been to you many times before and enjoyed our food but very disappointed this time, the bread with the sharing starters was very dry, main courses were over cooked, seafood platter was very dry, smothered chicken was over cooked but we ate it, my grandson and partner had to leave their meals, overall a disappointing evening.
Arrived for an early evening meal with family plenty of parking in site. Greeted at the door by friendly staff. We have been for lunch and evening meal before and came back with family and enjoyed another great meal. The staff here are very friendly which you dont find everywhere! Look forward to returning again!
