Have visited The Wheatsheaf many times before as it is local to a holiday cottage we have stayed in every year for over 20 years. This was not a good experience and our observations mirror what other reviewers have said again and again. Does anyone take these negative reviews into account and try and learn from them? Good experience booking the table by email that was answered straight away. We were the first to arrive at 6:30PM. Two grandparents and two grandchildren 8 and 6. Unfortunately it was downhill rapidly from then on as follows: 1 The Children’s Menu was offputtingly called Toddlers Menu. Why? Both children were not sure the menu was meant for them and had the adult menu which was far too much food for them. 2 The starters arrived in reasonable time but we were then waiting over one hour for the main courses. This was despite asking for news of progress several times. 3 One of the children’s choice of burger was covered in a spicy crisp and mayonnaise both of which were inedible to him. 4 Consequently we stayed for ice cream and had another lengthy wait. 5 None of the serving staff showed any interest in engaging with us and spent most of the evening chatting behind the bar to each other. 6 When the time came to pay there was no service added to the bill but the card machine suggested various percentages for a tip starting at 10% without an option to pay no tip at all so payment of a tip was almost compulsory. By then, we had been at The Wheatsheaf for 2 1/2 hours and were anxious to get the children to bed. 7 As we were leaving, a table of four at an opposite corner who had been there from when we were waiting for our main course asked for news of progress of their food to be told that the order had mistakenly not been progressed to the kitchen and to wait further to be served. So none of the serving staff had noticed that they had been seated without food for so long. I rather think that our association with this eatery has terminated as a result. A great pity.

We called in after seeing a sign on the road advertising live an hour away) met by a very unfriendly blonde lady who said she could fit us in on her last table as we hadn’t booked then gave another table to another couple who were walk ins) she talked to us like we were stupid as we didn’t know what was going on in nearby Sheringham, how would we? I was just about to walk out when her tone softened slightly. Wish we had left, hubbys pork was fine but my lamb was raw and I do mean raw, when I said it was inedible she said she would get me better slices from the kitchen. They arrived WORSE then the original there was actually blood on the plate! I couldn’t eat the meat and when I asked could the bill be adjusted to this she was more than happy to comply by now there were other diners sitting near us) she knocked off the bill both our alcoholic drinks As we left she said hope you will come again …….NEVER

Booked the Wheatsheaf for Sunday Lunch to give it a try as we 'd never been before. Atmosphere was typically pub which was nice. We ordered Traditional Sunday Lunches one Beef one Lamb. The Beef was good but the Lamb was well overcooked. The worst part was the roast potatoes and the poor selection of vegetables cabbage and carrots. I don 't know when they had been cooked but the potatoes and carrots were dried out and had a skin, typical of being sitting under a hot lamp. For £21 and £19 for a main course, I would have expected something better.

We had booked an evening meal after a recommendation from the owners of our accommodation. We booked a table, for ourselves (a couple) and our two dogs, and had a pleasant greeting. We ordered the special, very enjoyable ribs, and venison sausages with mash. Both meals were very tasty and plentiful. We would highly recommend this pub.
