I had the pleasure of delicious burgers and great company at the Workers Bar and Kitchen. The Workers work their magic on Sunday with their $10 burger and fries. The pub is laid back with a lot of trendy youngsters drinking beers and playing giant jenga. If you 're looking for a quick bite to eat to accompany a few beers then I 'd definitely recommend dropping by on a Sunday. I would definitely recommend the chicken burger. Its described as the 'Buttermilk fried chicken breast, avocado, lettuce, tomato and smoked chilli mayonnaise '. Delicious!! A crispy coating on the chicken  was perfectly matched with the thin, salty fries. The beef burger was delicious as well but I just loved the chicke...

The Workers located in Balmain celebrated their 1st Birthday and we head back to the Balmain area (here just days prior for craftbeerweek at the Welcome Hotel). The workers with its pick and hammer logo is up the stairs along Darling Street. Its fairly non-descript so you have to know what you’re looking for. Its a great looking modern pub. Pic below showcases where it sits. Sandwiched right between Balmain Wine and Zumbo. Good company. Neon Logo betrays its modernity. Red Doors Modern typography, a yak head make up the bar area. Its quite on trend. Look up and you’ll see these men staring down at you. A look across the room. There’s largish communal tables and also Louis the XII mod chairs...

The highlight of my month was a rousing speech by Bob Hawke at The Workers launch party, which reminded the gathered faithful of Balmain’s true roots as Australian Labor Party heartland. The funky setting is like a cross between The Norfolk and The Abercrombie, with a little bit of Astroturf Melbourne rooftop thrown in. The crowd, which included a swathe of local television stars from All Saint’s Michela Noonan to Underbelly’s Roy Billing, were also treated to a live performance by Tim Freedman from The Whitlams. We were kept from getting too drunk on Ben Johnson’s (Lo-Fi) clever concoctions by samples from their Mexican finger food menu – yep, more tacos, sliders and jalapeno poppers. Owner...

Even in this candy coloured environment, the vibe for Abby Dobson is relaxed and low-key at her free Thursday night Red Door Set. The crowd is a collection of upwardly mobile couples, mostly straight and moneyed, with a raggedy bunch of older singles sipping beers. Women seem keener on exploring the reasonably extensive cocktail list, offering options like the High Tea $16) bearing house-infused chamomile and vanilla gin.
