Theo is conveniently located near the Porta Nigra and has a great view of the gate. The restaurant is cozy and warm with a friendly staff. Some of them speak very good English and there are English menu's available, so travelers don't need to flex their Deutsch. The food and general fare were good: my son destroyed the chicken wings, my wife loved the Kartoffel-Brokkoli-Auflauf (Potato & broccoli au-gratin) and my daughter loved the baked potato. The curry-wurst was meh... on the plus side is that hefeweizen goes with everything.
We were on a tour of the city of Trier and it was cold a drizzling. To get warm and wait for the bus we went into the coffee house, Theo. WOW! We had two American coffees with Amaretto with heavy whipped cream. IT WAS WONERFUL! It was delicious and warmed us inside and out.
Good lunch with very friendly service. I had a salmon gravlax with crispy potatoes which was perfect for lunch. The prices are reasonable and our waitress spoke English and was very sweet. Ask for the English menu if you need one.
Very pleasant place for a meal or just a drink. Pleasant staff and good home made soup and excellent home made burger. Very convenient near to the Porta Negra.Plenty of places to eat in Trier and this is good choice.

Friendly informal spot next to the Roman gate, good for just a drink or a full meal, a few snack options too on the menu. Good schnitzel though not the cheapest in town... nice staff, terrace, good Bitburger.
The restaurant it's self was very cute. The waiters were all very nice and spoke great English. (Also had an English menu if you ask) the food wasn't anything special but was very tasty. Very nice
Small children friendly, with baby chairs. The manu is quite short but everyone finds something to eat. German kitchen but not kind of "old style". The dishes are tasty food.
We found this a great location to get a bite of lunch, a beer and watch the tourist wonder around the Roman Gate

Located just opposite the Porta Nigeria you can enjoy real German food in enormous portions. Friendly service.
Great service and meals there. Definitely go there on a nice day as you can just take in the magic view.
