After a horrendous drive up from Munich we needed some good old fashioned culinary comfort and boy did we get it. I booked a few hours in advance and my non-existent German wasn’t a problem, the receptionist spoke English well and was happy to take...our booking. Traffic and roadworks meant that we were running late but the restaurant was more than happy to shift our booking 30 minutes and accommodate. When we arrived we were struck by an informal and buzzing environment. The customers seemed relaxed and at ease as the friendly staff buzzed around tending to their needs. First night in cologne, me and my partner were looking for somewhere to eat and we saw the wood-fired pizza oven from out side and were drawn straight to the door. On arrival we were greeted by someone who spoke perfect English, we were asked...if we had booked and explained that the oven caught our eye and that we wanted to go in. He was more then happy to have us but said in future book ahead as it becomes extremely busy, it was only about 18:40 and it was getting busy, full of locals and the atmosphere was spot on. On one of these most recent heatwave days in Koln, when it was too hot to even think about much for lunch, we found Toscanini's atmosphere perfect. The large front windows were open which let some air in but also let the oven's heat out ...the seating capacity wasn't maxed out (most likely due to the heat), and the idea of a simple pizza seemed to be the perfect choice for a small lunch. And, indeed, it was the perfect choice. The crust was delicious, the preparation and service were great, and the kolsch vom fass placed the finishing touches on an enjoyable (although hot) early afternoon meal.
we visited in December 2021 to search for recommendations on travel advisers and what a sound! that was the most beautiful restaurant we visited in köln! some nice teig balls to start with a garlic butter as an appetizer that was a beautiful geste....Very delicious! then on the net, we had the bark fillet pasta with a truffle sauce! That was incredible! the pizzas also looked great! the personal was nice and to finish a free lemon cello shot, very nice gesture! we would highly recommend! also a tipbook in advance as it quickly books!

it is very confusing for me to read the other reviews, perhaps they changed the peculiarity recently. first, the owners are not Italian and that is of course not a problem if they could cook real Italian cuisine. second, food becomes Italian (many garlic on...pizza food swimming in sauce etc.) third and worst case, the waiter was so rude that some of my friends left before the end of dinner. never.
I went without reservation to toscanini and the super friendly staff pushed me into the fully booked restaurant. the ambiente is very beautiful and the staff is very friendly and pleasant. the food is great and the prices are super low for the quality. all in all a very good experience that I will definitely repeat.
This is a little off the beaten path for tourists in the centre, but well worth seeking out. There seemed to be a lot of locals there. We had great service from start to finish, and the food and drink (pizza, pasta, starters, wine) were...all excellent. I would return next time I'm in the city, definitely.
I love this restaurant, was there often. quality of eating, service and atmosphere is amazing! his very cheap and pizzas are huge. they prefer to make a reservation than small location.

Great service and great food!! Food was delicious. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. A great little find in a quiet little road.
We went here just before our flight, the food was amazing as was the service we received I would love to come back here again!
