Back from Italy I was looking forward to a good Italian lunch. Colleagues had recommended it. I was not impressed neither happy with the food nor the prices. The owner behind the kitchen counter read the Italian menu to us in a speed that even when knowing Italian was hard to follow. I ordered tagliatelle with fresh artichokes and shrimps. The portion was generous, the artichokes and shrimps hardly noticeable tastewise, the white sauce absolutely tasteless. I found the price generally unappropriately high considering the modest supermarket canteen atmosphere. The Trattoria Primo-Market is integrated in an typical italian supermarket. First it was just a supermarket, but over the course of time, Fabrizio, the owner, developed this quirky but atmospheric trattoria. They have a changing menu and they serve pizza, too. You can choose wines by walking through the wine rack of the supermarket - fantastic. For me, this trattoria has the potential to be the No 1 for italian food in Freiburg, but there is a problem with the patchy quality. We loved the food and the staff. We went here a few times during our two week stay in Freiburg and we always had the same waitress. She was funny and super patient. The pizza and pasta dishes we tried were all awesome and they also have a menu that changes nightly. This place is not fancy but itis an excellent place to spend an evening.
