I had looked online at the website which made the place look fun and friendly. So I booked a meal for my son on his birthday, explaining over the phone he was alone and at uni and if possible could they do something special asking if they did birthday cakes, they said they did lots of cakes and they were sure they could sort something out. I’ve been a few times over the years for afternoon tea which is overpriced but good, however coming in for dinner is a completely different vibe. Many of staff members are young and clearly not well trained, they are pleasant (mostly) but a bit clueless. The food was fine. My biggest issue with the place is how poorly they treat the staff. Another table had complaints about the food and the poor waitress didn’t know what to do (not her fault as she looked 14 and clearly had no training in customer service) so the woman who I know is the owner came over and was fine with the customers, but as soon as she walked away she let her frustrations out on the young waitress. Have been a regular customer for many years. However , a recent impulse stop for lunch was a big mistake. The food was poor and the server was very inexperienced and dumped our food in front of us and disappeared. Not wanting to make a scene and complain in front of all the customers I decided to wait until we got home and reported our experience to them by email. We were treated like we were lying as they wished to review things on their CCTV. Didn’t bother to reply so after 10 days I contacted them again and a satisfactory resolution was not received. We have been visiting Trevaskis restaurant for several years, however over the last 6 months the decline in the quality of the food has been very noticeable, the service certainly isn't what it used to be either. We came about 2 weeks ago for the last time). I noticed at how filthy the dessert cabinet was, and also a staff member was spraying the cleaner just by the desserts... I emailed Trevaskis the next morning with photos of the dessert cabinet and my concerns, and as of yet, I've had no reply. We visited on a quiet Sunday morning to do a bit of Christmas shopping in the farm shop, we decided to go into the resturant for a coffee and to pick up some deserts for after our Sunday dinner at home. After being ignored for a few minutes at the desk we were seated and after a little wait our coffee order was taken. We waited for 32 minutes and no coffee appeared. In that time my daughter asked a waitress and got a very blunt reply of “yeah it will be coming” We couldn’t wait any longer, Deserts were not bought, our big Christmas nibbles food shop was done at M&S instead and we cancelled our table of 4 for the £22 deal the next week. We came here to 'pick our own '. We didn 't really know what to expect, but the farm is so well organised. You basically get a punnet, pick what you want and get it weighed and pay at the till. Easy! There are loads of signs up telling you what 's available to pick and in which poly tunnel. We managed to get some strawberries and raspberries, but gooseberries were also available when we visited. Other fruits would be available at different times of the year. We had such a good time picking the fruit. There is a shop and cafe onsite and also some farm animals. There is plenty of car parking available. The prices for the fruit were very reasonable.
Very disappointed with the breakfast. As it was the final day of our holiday we decided to treat ourselves to the big breakfast. Portion size was great BUT the hogs pudding and mushrooms looked raw, the bacon was anaemic and the whole breakfast was cold. The only edible part for me was the two fried eggs and the toast. None of the very young staff asked if everything was OK during the meal and we left very dissatisfied. Later my husband, who has the constitution of an Ox, was violently sick. Proceed with caution at this place!
It was incredibly busy on Sunday as it was the start of half term, and there were loads of families getting pumpkins and then queueing for the restaurant. We were really glad we had booked ahead online, but everything was really well organised, from the car park attendant to the restaurant staff, it was all running like clockwork. We had Sunday roasts and some lighter options followed by the usual amazing desserts and couldn't fault anything. Four of us ate for just over £100. Well done Trevaskis, a great start to our holiday.

The food is always amazing whenever we visit (usually on a Sunday). The roast dinner is spot on (always go for large such a difference in the size of the meals for just £1 difference). The desserts are legendary and a big draw for locals and tourists alike. However, the only thing that lets the restaurant down is the service. Not enough servers combined with young and inexperienced staff mean there’s always a delay or a problem getting the order right. Shame, as it could be perfect otherwise.
