Although recommended by a local the restaurant is in a quiet backwater and having stumbled upon it almost by chance took the opportunity to book for lunch the next day (it is not open evenings and offers lunch only, Mon Fri). Ingredients are bought daily and the menu is restricted according to availability up to 3 courses with 2 choices per course which is almost invariably a good sign. It certainly was in this case with simple dishes using fresh local ingredients, well prepared and presented, friendly service, and inexpensive what more could you ask for?
The pashaka court is well suited for real tennis. Built in 1931, to replace the court nearby that the church gave over for a cinema, Leon Dongaitz was a local player, and so was Real Tennis legend, Pierre Etchebaster, whose family bakery is just around the corner. I first stayed there nearly 16 years ago, sadly it is no longer a hotel, but the owner's family run it as a restaurant with great success.
We were en route from ATM and looked for restaurant nearby. Luckily for us this restaurant was nearest and what a find. Really great waitress/owner who spoke perfect English. Limited selection but that is usually a recommendation. We had calamari risotto and strawberry mousse which were both exquisite. Would definitely return for the quality of the food. Would definitely recommend to others
Very nice find off tourist track. Excellent 3 course meal 18€ Garber 3 choices of main meal we had joue de voeux tender and tasty and chose pavlova for dessert. The large glass of Bordeaux was good value. Mine host was a lovely lady who say us by the fire even though we arrived 20 minutes early. We will certainly visit again. Good wholesome food freshly cooked.
