I 'd like to start by saying that this restaurant should hands-down be the #1 contemporary American cuisine in St Louis and easily one of the top 20 or better restaurants in St Louis. My wife and I went here for a date night dinner and were completely impressed by everything from the service, to the wine selection, to the food, and ambiance. The restaurant itself has clearly attracted the attention of St Louis ' elite upper class as the restaurant clientele were so exuberant that we honestly felt a little out of place there. My wife and I visited Truffles on Saturday, 2 February. (Our second visit for dinner. . Once again we were amazed by the food and the excellent service; however, there were two disappointments. The waiter should have presented the cork from our bottle of French wine, and had thrown it away before I realized he had not left it on the table. (I collect corks and enjoy seeing what each winery puts on their cork. My wife had the beet salad and I had the French Onion soup, which was off the menu that evening. Both were excellent. My wife and I shared the evening as both have February birthdays. First of all our waitress, Danielle was a delight. Friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Food was fantastic. My wife had the dinner salad and she could not stop raving about it. I had the Strip with twice baked potato and Brussel sprouts. The steak was done extremely well, great char on the outside and just as I ordered it inside. The twice baked was the best I had ever had. My wife had the sea scallops and also done to perfection. As a special treat I took my 2 grandchildren to a “fancy dinner” over the holiday. They are not babies altho I saw one there) and they are very well behaved. In fact, two of the patrons came to our table and commented on how well behaved they were. The ambiance was upscale and the food was good. The dover sole was especially tasty. The problem was the robotic movements of the wait staff. Not friendly. Not helpful. Not attentive. They just did what they had to do. They seemed to be annoyed at the fact we had children with us. Four adults for a Saturday Night Birthday Dinner; the appetizers were excellent. I was particularly impressed by the New England style lobster roll didn't expect that in St. Louis. We had the rack of lamb a large enough order to serve 2 the new york sirloin, the Ahi tuna, and filet mignon. Service was attentive and friendly, but not obsequious. They have a trained sommelier there, and my only disappointment was that he skipped our table on his rounds, The winelist is huge, with many excellent wines on hand. The glass of Chateau Massiac Sauvignon Blanc was very good particularly with the mussels. The bread was excellent. The bottle of Martinet Saint Emilion was very, very good with the burrata, the House Pasta and the Prime Ribeye. The ribeye was the only disappointment, it was ok not spectacular, particularly at $69 in St. Louis it should have been much better. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the Saint Emilion, the House Pasta. All the service was top notch and Chris was outstanding. The wine list is huge like a volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica. A group of us were in the mid west on work and went to Truffles on a recommendation. The food was surprisingly good but what made the evening remarkable was the service. The staff at this place are efficient but, more importantly, some of the nicest people I met- in a city known for friendliness. One of our table wanted to eat ribs and asked for a bib; this turned the whole meal into an entertainment as the staff improvised a bib and joined in the laughter. I will go back to Truffles. I will skip a starter and try the ribs myself!

We recently enjoyed apps and drinks at the bar at Truffles Restaurant. We arrived before 5:00 and got the last 4-top. The drinks, wine and apps are good although only select wines are priced for Happy Hour. Truffles is easy to find and parking shouldn’t be a problem. This is an upscale neighborhood bar. Disappointed in the change in the ambience: I haven’t been there in almost 4 years and the last time I was there there was soft music, soft lighting, and great service. Unfortunately, it’s turned into more of a rock ‘n’ roll casual bar type environment. The steaks we had were delicious, and the service was great, but the atmosphere was disappointing. The music was not for dining, and the crowd was very loud.
