I love this place. The wait staff are always friendly and willing to answer questions. They'll explain anything from what something is to how to go about eating it. For that reason it's great for the uninitiated. I've taken many friends (almost all meat-eaters) to this place they invariably come away saying something like, Whoa that was great and I didn't even think about missing meat Udupi Palace sets a pretty high standard. udupi palace is Indian vegetarian restaurant, artesia has always been home to Indian food for southern California. udupi palast is a chain of restaurants know n for its large South Indian vegetarian cuisine. this is a restaurant that specializes in the South Indian cuisine that is 100% vegetarian, but not vegan. unbalance with friendly waiter, highly recommended for South Indian food. we came there on a Saturday afternoon at 1:30 a.m. and sat after about five minutes. this place does not take reservations, so it looks like it arrives at some point, so they avoid lunch during the weekend. we ordered south indian thali, it came with rice and roti, which came with many curries such as rasam, sa...
extremely bad customer support and the personal treated people badly. the waiter who served us, asked us to pay the bill when eating just arrived, as the restaurant soon ended, which was completely in order with us! but then he stared like literally from every corner of the room for all the time, we had eaten that was very unpleasant and felt terrible! at the end, when we left, he came to the table to ask for bill quittung, and rudely said he doesn't look tip on him! such a terrible experience and then want them also pointed (which they come and ask for on the table!) worst experience in a restaurant ever. never again here. also sad, I see that many people have mentioned the same treatment o...
Udupi is a good place, food is good but not necessarily the best. South Indian fare isn’t really South Indian, the chutney isn’t always fresh based on our own experience in dining over 100 fine indian restaurants across the country. Sambar is ok, more like a daal which usually happens when the chef isn’t a southern indian. I don’t know who the chef is but certainly felt that way when we visited on a week day around 3 pm for a late lunch. Good ambience, friendly service, and overall a good place but not the tastiest food.
this is a typical udupi restaurant that is in the middle and average. the key to a good South Indian restaurant is the masala in the dosa. here was the masala disappointing as with most udupi places in the Usa. the only exception is saravana bhavan. However, the leti was superior, and so was the idyll and the vada of the Masala tea was again the typical milky concoction, which is served in most Indian restaurants that rave more than tee.
Went here a month or so ago for lunch. My first experience with Indian food, happened to be in the neighborhood. The waiter was very helpful answering questions about dishes and pointed out 2 curry dishes that were vegan. Ordered one with spinach that was very tasty. They have lunch specials. Plenty of parking on the street or in the lot behind the restaurant. Definately will visit again.
Indeed the best southindian vegetarian food in Losangeles. We tried the dosas , uthapam panckaes) thali, it was great. The food is so tasty and the service really compliments with it as well as a simple decor with a reasonable price. Its worth a treat. The staff is so friendly and courteous helpful. i felt like home. we will definately go back .
