Union Street Grill Grotto

The Union Street Grill/Grotto serves flavourful food, mainly local and made from scratch, with a regular and a full gluten free menu. They do a very good steak sandwich, wonderful ribs, salads, pasta and burgers/gf tostadas, tasty tapas and a number of vegetarian options. Soups are usually quite peppery. The staff is always welcoming. If you feel the cold, bring a sweater; the air conditioning is usually cranked up. Too Many Shades of Grey: a rooftop deck is in the works. The owners added metal support posts to reinforce the ceiling of the dining room, then painted the room grey: light grey, medium grey, dark grey with the darkest grey at the back of the room furthest from the window so that...

Busy restaurant that seemed under staffed when we were there for dinner. I had the mushroom risotto (although I ordered the quinoa salad - lone server was definitely rushed) as well as the prawn taco. The taco was a hard shell, which definitely made it difficult to eat - other than that it was a tasty option. My wife had the "lil Italy" with gluten free pasta - described as very good. The dessert menu is almost completely gluten free, so lots of options for celiacs. I had the fruit cobbler which was tasty - portion size was modest.

my family and I (three adults, two children) came to an early dinner on a Sunday at 16:30. it was nice and quiet and we had taken our order and served immediately. I have the mushroom walnussburger and it was the best sweetburger I've ever eaten. it looked, smelled and tasted incredible! I'm just gonna drive down the island to eat many more paints here. there were at least four other dishes on the menu I wanted to try and this is rare for me with food restrictions! what, by the way, they too! vegan, gluten-free. eat here!

Following a day of golf, we reserved a table for dinner at the Union Street Grill. Despite being 30 minutes late, we were accommodated with a fine table without question or delay. The menu is varied and interesting and worthy of return visits to try new things. A separate gluten-free menu is available for those who so desire. quaint small place with excellent food and service. I went there for a meeting with my partner and a family member I hadn't seen for over 20 years. we appreciated the fact that they didn't want to kick us out. I ordered thai prawn salat, just delicious. my partner ordered pork ribs for an appetit and fish and chips; I tried a nativity (that's all he would share with me, lol) and it was disgusting. definitiw will be back next time in courtenay.

Went for a later lunch for our first meal here. Very cool atmosphere, with lots of beautiful art and special little touches. Had a corner window seat where we could enjoy the etched glass window panes. Fish tacos were very good, lots of flavor. The tuna appetizer was very good, as was the seafood. Service was fast and friendly. Enjoyed our visit, and will definitely return.

We were a party of 4 adults and 1 child (seven years old). Our child loved the chicken strips and fries. I had a veggie burger which was homemade and good. Our server was so so and that's why I give it an average rating. We will try it again. I don't think you can judge by one experience.

We would dine here again. The food was excellent. Finding quality gluten free food is not always easy. This restaurant set up for gluten free service. French fries are in a separate fryer. The gluten free tortias were excellent. Service was friendly and informed. Thanks Reserva una mesa ahora

Walked in with table of 6 - server acknowledged us then proceeded to chat with fellow staff members and left us standing uncomfortable at the door for 5 min. Apparently our business wasn't worth her time and we left. Disappointed

Great, reasonably priced family dinners. Kid's menu available and we were there on a Sunday evening which was family night so kid's meals were half priced. Good service. Would recommend.
