The french-spanish border goes through the garden, at the edge of the house. But it doesn't matter ! both sides are in Basquenland! and the food goes with it. The ladies in the places are everywhere always, full of attention even when overwhelmed.. Just courtesy, helpullness and smiling. You get served in a glance with food coming with strong roots of family cooking but in a aristocratic quality. Grilled shrimps excellent, Cheese salads wonderfull, and the fish grilled and served on the top. I barely found cod like that. I must try to go back to try their Chuletas!! Desert are traditional and carefully prepared. don't hesitate to find it lost in the country on your way to the mountain. But only 3,5 km from Sare.
The reviewers were right to rate this restaurant highly. We enjoyed our meals , were surprised by the generous portions and delighted in the fresh ingredients. It was so good that we returned for a second night during our holiday in the region. The charcuterie was excellent value and the meat was very delicious. Not like the usual salty charcuterie that Is found in some more expensive restaurants. The merlu couldn't have been fresher and the desserts matched the mains in their quality. It was extremely good value considering you get wine included. The sangria went down well. All in all an excellent restaurant with good friendly service in a lovely rustic setting. Highly recommended.
We were exploring Sare and decided to try out this place based on the reviews on trip advisor. We were not disappointed. The house is in the middle of nowhere, with beautiful green surroundings. Lovely place to relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal. We had the grilled steak for 2 and the portions are definitely very generous. Although it was quite out of the way, the crowd starts coming in very quickly, so obviously this must be quite a popular place for the locals.
Only fans of very small roads would get to the point to stumble across the signpost directing into an even smaller (dead end road to get there. Yet, worth while! A lonely house in the middle of green. Its parking has enough room to get the seats filled. You will cross the border from France into Spain when you walk towards the restaurant. No problem, thanks EU : Excellent food served by a competent and very friendly team.
