Valois - Reserva de mesa

My husband and I were staying at a cottage on the Mattawa River for the week and since we weren't catching any fish off the dock decided to go into town and order a pickerel dinner. Glad we did. The Valois Restaurant and Motel is a typical Highway 17 stop on the Ottawa River, a little run-down. The dining room is large, with walls of windows at front (Highway 17) and back (overlooks the hotel cottages and river). There are also stools and counter with t.v. to one side. We both had the $21.95 pan-fried pickerel filet - must have been 12 ounces - lightly breaded, rice pilaf, creamy coleslaw, a warm Vienna loaf with butter, cauliflower and broccoli. We both left the rice and I left the coleslaw...

We heard that the breakfast was great so we thought we would take a chance on lunch/dinner and we were not disappointed! In fact we were pleasantly surprised!! We had a home cooked meal with home made pasta ( in house) which was awesome! Not to mention the portion size was definitely generous, hearty and mouth watering great meal. Our server Aaren is a youthful, energetic, wealth of knowledge about Mattawa and her surroundings the great Ottawa river. She was the most gracious of servers and a definite asset to this establishment. It is my hope that she is as much appreciated by her employers as we appreciated her warm hospitality from the minute we walked in the door until the moment we left...

So sorry to hear of your bad service Robyn L. As a local I apologize. I do wonder though if you have the right person/name as the only Amanda I know that works there - Is amazing and very passionate about her job and has never struck me as a know it all on my multiple visits. Again so sorry for your bad experience....I would recommend checking into the name again as this does not sound like her at all - and that type of service definitely deserves to be acknowledged by the owner ...as I'm sure they would not condone this type of behaviour...take care and hope your next visit is better. :)

Three of us had the fresh pickerel dinner and it was the best pickerel we have ever had. I had a baked potato with mine and it was one of the best baked potatoes I have ever had. Those who ordered mashed potatoes thought they were very tasty too. The other vegetables - carrots and cauliflower - were not all that special in comparison. The entire meal was cooked from scratch.There service was wonderful and we always enjoy the view of the Ottawa River. Get a window seat.The pickerel dinner was about $27.00 each, but well worth it. did a turn and burn from Espanola to Ottawa , the highlight of my day was stopping at Valois for supper on the way home, the food is great, it's like a home cooked meal, i always have the Valois burger (bacon cheese burger) my wife had the hot turkey sandwich (no Bread) both meals were great. the atmosphere is like going to camp the ceiling is chip board the floor aren't exactly level, but the view out over the river is great, the waitress are very friendly , service was quick meals were hot

Worst service from Amanda, first they gave my order to the wrong person when i went in for pick up, then when i asked for a deal she bluntly told me no. The person then brought back the meal that i ordered and she SERVED IT TO US. feeling bad i took it, 17.97 for two poutines, a rip off, disgusting quality, horrible service. I wasnt even able to eat it because the person before could have done something to it. Every time i go there Amanda is rude and a know it all.

April 2017 - Good lunch stop between Ottawa and Sudbury. Usual Ontario North decor and menu in a roomy, bright and airy vantage point over the Ottawa River. Burgers and BLTS with soup were fresh, healthy enough, generous and family oriented. Lots of room for families. Remnants of a busy but past snowmobile season were evident with heavy duty slush mats and somewhat worn at the adjacent "Hotel" desk area. Would certainly stop again.

Great food as the portions were large (even for the kids meals) and all of the food is made fresh. Our table had burgers, Pot pie and Haddock special and no one was disappointed! Very happy with our meals... And price. The restaurant looks a little tired and it was a very buys joint. Thanks for the great lunch! Reserva una mesa ahora

Menu is varied and all items prepared very well. Servings are generous and prices reasonable. Pickerel was fantastic! Lots of room for families and the views of the Ottawa River delight the eye. A little worn around the edges but definitely will be back!

Once upon a time it was the place to stop on our way north. It has been allowed to stagnate and is in need of rejuvenation.
