Vieux Valais - Reserva de mesa

Spending a few days in Valais we decided to go to this restaurant based on the good reviews it has on here. However, we were disappointed with the standard of food. As Swiss, we know good fondue raclette. So to be served a luke-warm rather tasteless fondue which after a few minutes started losing it's consistency and a raclette with one tiny potato and a sloppy presentation was for us too low quality for such a high price. We've had better at local village parties for half the price. Probably good enough for tourists but not for us. To add something positive, the service was good and the food was served fast.

In the old town of Sion on a pedestrian only street, parc in the nearby underground garage, is this unpretentious bistro which serves typical local Suiise food. Very friendly service and affordable prices make this restaurant a fantastic choice. We started with very good cheese fondue, followed by beef fondue with potatoes, dry meat, cornichons and small onions. All acompanied by a fresh Valais white and finished with a Valais red. A very pleasant evening despite the typical smell of your clothes after a Fondue feast.

We were very excited to dine at the restaurant after a days hike in the nearby mountains. Upon arrival we were not greeted but confronted by an extremely unpleasant staff member who despite the restaurant being completely empty with only one reservation note visible informed us that they cannot serve us as they are fully booked. Unfortunately I have a reason to suspect the denial of service was of xenophobic nature. I strongly discourage anyone to dine there.

Today us and a group of friends had a horrible experience at Au Vieux Valais. We were early at the restaurant because we were extremely happy to try Swiss cuisine. However, we were not made feel welcome and were discouraged to eat at the restaurant. We believe that we were dismissed from the restaurant because we approached the owner in English. The behavior of the owner felt xenophobic in nature and left us really confused and upset and of course, hungry! Reserva una mesa ahora

We had a good lunch at this restaurant. Service was attentive and helpful in making recommendations. We had never had fondue and the service was helpful in guiding us in our meal. We were able to order a decent bottle of wine. The seating on the street was pleasant. The portion sizes were huge, and the fries were replenished when we had eaten all of the first serving. Relative to the cost of food in Switzerland, the pricing was good.

L’accueil a été très agréable, le cadre est très sympa et le personnel aimable et accueillant. La fondue glareyarde est composée de 3 sortes de viandes et les rations sont largement suffisantes sans avoir besoin de prendre de supplément. Rapport qualité prix est raisonnable. J’espère y retourner pour manger raclette et fondue au fromage. Je recommande sans hésitation

It will be hard to write further than : Excellent Fondue ! The white wine was excellent, the viande de grison also. We all got really satisfied with the fondue until we could no more. We also tried some local liquor wich was just what we needed. Parfait (maybe the commercial aspect of the waiter was just a little too much

This is clearly a turistic place. But this does not necessarily mean bad restaurant. If you want to taste local food this is for sure one alternative to consider. They have great variety of fondue and Raclette to choose, all very good. Service was professional and attentive. Would come back gladly to eat more fondue Reserva una mesa ahora

I want there twice two years apart and both time the food and service where great the first time i had the raclette testing a must have for cheese lover the second time i had the tomatoes cheese fondue it was wonderfull they añso have a great selections of local wine will defintly be back

Nice Swiss restaurant, traditional atmosphere, specialist for (meat) fondue with meat in a very good quality and nicely marinated.
