I lived in the American Southwest for over 30 years and I recognize 7 different "Mexican" cuisines. This was none of them. A burrito is not meat, rice, beans, and God knows what else wrapped in a ____ (it didn't taste like any tortilla I've ever had.... more like a wrap) with salad on the side. The elements all tasted like they came from a can. It just wasn't pleasing. The "Classic" Margarita was - not. Somebody ought to tell them that any cocktail made with tequila is not automatically a margarita - my partner had one of the other "margarita" drinks and she described as a fruit cordial with alcohol. The service was just... unengaged. It took nearly ten minutes to get the only person who could...

On a recent visit to Yarraville I choose the Village Cantina. We were shown to our table and things went downhill from there. It took 10 minutes before we were given a menu, after asking for it. Next we were asked if we would like to order drinks by a second wait person. The first wait person returned eventually, (it was not full) to take our food order and immediately told us that they had run out of Nachos - a staple on the menu. Actually it was corn chips that were unavailable effecting several dishes. The wait person was really not interested, we should have left then. After ordering our meal and waiting another 10 minutes our drinks arrived. I asked for water. Then a patron sitting on t...

It's such a neat little venue and I really love this cuisine but they do it so poorly. The kitchen is clearly running low on the following items:- Salt- Limes- Fresh brown onion- Fresh coriander....all of which you can add to avocado and jalapeños to make a guacamole, with a little olive oil too! I like lists, so here's a few Mexican restaurants that the cooks should check out and get inspired by:- Fonda Mexican, Richmond/CBD- Trippy Taco, Collingwood- Taco Truck, everywhere- Mamasita, CBD- El Chino, Fitzroy NorthGood luck and I hope you get some new recipes!

I din't think the place would be so packed at only 7pm, but after eating there I understood why!The food is very good and the prices very fair.My partner and I shared an opened Carnitas Burrito (with pulled pork) and a salad. Both dishes were generous in quantity and very very tasty. There are plenty of options for vegetarians and many different drinks to choose, from the traditional margaritas, to Mexican or Melbournian beers, ciders or even coconut water. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere very lively and fun. I would definitely come back! Reserva una mesa ahora

We had dinner here before going to the Sun Theatre (another must do in Yarraville). The food was great, with plenty of options to choose from I could have ordered three times over. There is a good range of Mexican beer and tequila, as well as the Two Birds taco beer which is brewed locally in Spotswood. The prices were quite reasonable and the service was friendly and prompt. It's not a big place so I would suggest booking over the weekend.

We have dined there a few times in the course of the last few months and it seems the food and atmosphere keep getting better. Having lived in Los Angeles where you get some of the nicest Mexican food outside Mexico, Village Cantina comes pretty close in achieving the authentic Mexican taste. My only complaint would be the sparse serving of guacamole and sour cream, which seems to be the norm in Melbourne.

The food here is excellent. Tasty and colourful. It was busy with an authentic atmosphere. Lots of attentive, friendly and cheerful staff and the margueritas were good too. Well worth a visit.

More style than substance. We waited forever to be served, they didn't have the beer or soft drink flavours we wanted and the tacos were tasteless. Reserva una mesa ahora

I am a frequent diner of village Cantina but I keep forgetting to check in The nacho bowl and jalapeno poppers are pretty good.
