Village Inn Stonehouse Pizza Carvery

We've been coming here for over 20 years and have been back to our fortnightly visits for the last 18 months . Today's visit was the worst we've ever had excluding my father in laws wake back in 2016. I don't know if its because they're understaffed a lot or they're gearing up for the refurb but lunch time today was awful. The staff were grumpy, rushed off their feet and looked generally disinterested. The staff member who took our order didn't take it properly, put in the wrong burger for my uncle and completely missed off his dessert of apple pie which i asked for 3 times) , we'd have found put sooner if he'd given us a receipt but despite me asking we didn't get one. He'd asked for the standard beyond burger but was given the above and beyond which was too much for him. When my husband went to tell the staff member we were ready for our desserts and also to order a hot chocolate and a coffee he wasn't given saucers or spoons for either drink and the cups were sticky, my mother in law had the hot chocolate and it had all settled in the bottom of the cup, hubby had to go hunt for a long enough spoon to stir it. We then discovered my Uncles dessert hasdn't been ordered , the ice cream machine was giving out runny liquid and when it did finally freeze the ice cream was revolting. By the time my Uncles apple pie came out he'd got himself into such a stressed state hes 93 and been going to the pub since he was a teenager back when it was the rose and crown, it's his favourite place to visit) he just wanted to leave. It's such a shame because we usually get really good service and the food is normally fab. Not sure what happened today. I do feel for the staff as the last few times they seem to have been rushed off their feet due to staff illness/ holiday etc. Hopefully things will get better for them once the refurbishment has been done. We're excited to see it looking all shiny and new.

First time visiting for a cheeky last minute carvery. Good was great and good value for money but the staff were amazing. Special shout out for Lee who I watched take care of everyone in the room with great chat and care for the customers. Thanks from SpudMan lookalike!!

Great food at a reasonable price very helpful staff especially a lady called shrieen our table was good the restaurant was warm and comfortable

Brilliant service and nice atmosphere and the staff in general were nice but the bar woman was very kind and always had a smile!

Excellent as always. Service and food amazing. Staff very friendly especially marta. Will definitely return and recommend
