Based on the reviews I guess I expected a little more in terms of the ambiance. I stayed at the Hotel Washington so the Vue was a super convenient elevator ride to the rooftop I would say the ambiance is leaning a bit more towards casual rather than formal or sophisticated. The views are...well, yes, you see views of the White House and the National Monument. For some reason I had a different impression of how the views would look. Since the Vue comes up as the highest rated rooftop lounge/bar in Washington, I'd suggest checking it out to get a skyline view of the city although I can't see myself coming back here again as there are so many other awesome lounges/bars in the city. In any case...
The view was stunning, but the service left much to be desired. Upon my arrival, the receptionist was absent from the front desk and eventually told me to find a table on my own, which felt quite rude since you typically expect to be shown to your seat. After sitting down, I waited for 10 minutes without anyone approaching me. I ended up taking some pictures, walking around, and ultimately decided to leave. I strongly suggest that the staff undergo training to improve their customer service skills, especially in a place like this with a beautiful view, a historic building, and prices that reflect these qualities.
Came here for my birthday and ordered a lot of drinks! The bartender we had was wonderful and the best rum cocktails I ever had! Didn't catch his name, but he's the type of bartender you would want to become a regular of and he was knowledgeable about rum unlike any other bartender I've met! Sat on the side with the view of the Monument and had a great time. The music was nice too. Definitely will be coming back next time I'm in DC!
