The reason me and my partner chose this place to eat is that the decor was so charming and wonderful, that we were incredibly excited to visit it just based on the ambiance as we passed. We booked a table for the following night, noting that the menus were on the door and there were several quite expensive menus, but assuming they were for two people (or if not, could easily be shared as the quantity was definitely enough for two). We arrived at the restaurant and inside it was as we 'd expected from the outside. The lighting, decor, colouring and personal touches were really, truly ideal for a night of sushi from, clearly, an artist of kinds. The chef clearly took great care in creating the menu and there are detailed explanations of how to eat what sushi, in what order, etc., on the tables. I found it pretty idiosyncratic but kind of great. However, when we asked if we could order a menu (the most expensive, but worth it €53 for around 15 20 sushi sashimis soup starter) to share, we were told no. Outright no. The waitresses were incredibly kind and checked with the chef twice, for him to continue to say no, until he finally agreed. We had to insist that it wasn 't based on price (as in, we weren 't being cheap, but also I don 't think that we should have felt the need to justify ourselves) but the quantity and ordering 2 separate meals (even the cheapest) would have meant we would have wasted food. We also went on to order a couple of extra sushi, wine, saki, and dessert (sesame noir ice cream really delicious). When we were ordering the chef was glaring at us as if we 'd just insulted his kitchen. I appreciate that the menus are made with absolute precision for eating and enjoying each taste and texture, however, a restaurant is not just a place to show off your art it 's also a place for people to enjoy the whole experience of the food and service you provide. We felt incredibly insulted and let down by the experience, as if we were in the wrong for requesting something entirely reasonable, and not given an explanation as to why it was 'wrong '. The whole meal was absolutely perfect. The waitresses tried to accommodate us, without knowing why the kitchen didn 't allow for this kind of flexibility. A small word from the chef would have been all it would have taken for this to have been a 5 star restaurant for us, but the attitude was really not very nice and made us feel uncomfortable in a place that we came to exactly for the ambiance. Overall, the food is excellent, the choice of saki is great, the artisanal element to the food production and presentation is there, but the arrogance or ownership of food and how ought can be eaten is pretty intimidating. Just a heads up.
