The food-Superb, fabulous, so fancy. The only drawback was the time in between the dishes. My last 2 visits were similar (10-15 minutes), realize there are students working on these dishes, however it's not that big of a restaurant. However this time it was 20-25 minutes after each dish. The server did apologize for the delay. The overall visit took 3 hours for the 6 courses. Each dish portion is small. . but if you go to any French restaurant, with fancy dishes they are small but remember you have multiple dishes. It makes you eat slower to enjoy the flavors. The food we had at Waterleaf was generally very good. The crawfish bisque was excellent. I'm not sure what made my Cajun caeser salad Cajun, but the salad was fine. My wife's arugula, fennel, green beans, and cajun vinaigrette salad was also good. Her pecan crusted chicken with tasso cream was very good accompanied by excellent collard greens. My blackened whitefish with dirty rice was also very good. Our student waiter was obviously new and very nervous, so hopefully with more experience he will improve. The value for the food we had was excellent.
Where else can one dine on a multi-course meal for such a reasonable price? The student waitstaff was very professional and attentive. The food choices were excellent. Keep in mind that the menu is limited to 2 choices per course, but choosing wasn't easy because every offering sounded appealing. We had pork chops today, but the salmon main course looked appetizing as well. It isn't easy to get a reservation since service is scheduled around the culinary arts school timetable, but I am definitely going to try to eat here again.
