I had about 15 restaurants to choose from for this road trip, and I chose to drive 8.5 hours to Werner's Smokehouse on route to my destination. Was it up to my expectations? I have mixed feelings. First off, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, from the 2 young ladies manning the front, to the employees who bring your food order and clear your empty baskets. Considering how long it took to get here, I wanted to try a lot of different things: #1 Smoked Chicken Wings: Veeeeery good. Recommend for a starter. #2 French Fries. Nothing special. I have been here 3 times, 2 of 3 was great. 1 time the brisket was really dry. I think that was a fluke, seems like a nice place. I wish they would have more platter choices, like getting a plate with smoked sausage, brisket, and pulled pork. You can do this by ordered 1/2 pound of all, but that is way too much food and too much money for lunch, lol. Also they are only open 3 days a week. Super, super, friendly people for sure.
As a vegetarian, frequently I find BBQ restaurants to be surprisingly good choices because of excellent sides. Werner's was perfect in that regard, with tons of different homemade sides. I had a plate of homemade sauerkraut (delicious! , mashed potatoes and what turned out to be a very large side salad. All items were fresh and delicious. There was a gluten-free menu with many items, which another guest appreciated.
Maybe it’s my bad for getting Fish and chips at a barbecue place, but when it has it as the special, you expect it to be good. Two very small portions of overfried fish and limp fries…oh, got the potato skins too which were garnished with either uncooked or all fat bacon bits…very disappointing. It was clean and cheap prices, but I would rather pay more for better food or pay less for fast food

I am so upset right now. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, and a beef brisket sandwich. They gave me 2 pork sandwiches. Why in the hell It couldn't be two beef brisket sandwich; Which costs more,and is a better meat???
I WOULD give this place more stars if I could!! Awesome people (family owned) perfectly cooked food that tastes spectacular!! I also loved , first time I 've tried it the Kentucky Bourbon Beer!
The brisket was pretty decent but nothing outstanding; however, the sauces on the table were nothing special. The service was fast.
Great brisket! They changed their way of ordering, but the staff is still friendly. I'm glad they re-opened!

I've been here many times always friendly , respectful , and great food (highly recommended) clean .
This place has the best brisket. Period. I only wish they were open more.
