Sunday afternoon was hot and sunny so we decided to stop here for a drink, at this point I should add that we are English but live locally in France and speak good French. The two men from our group went ahead and ordered 2 pints of Guinness, they were chatting in English having read the price list outside and they knew it was 6.90 euros per pint plus an extra 20 cents if you wanted to sit outside on the terrace, they were commenting whilst waiting at the bar that they didn't agree with the extra 20 cents each. Two pints at the bar would cost 13.80, they handed over 20 euros and we're given just 1.20 euros change together with a receipt that was placed on the bar. At this point my husband looked at the change, called the barman over, pointed to the change and asked 'what happened here?' Without commenting the barman went to the till, took out 5 euros and placed it alongside the 1.20 still on the bar. He obviously knew what he had done and didn't even question what the problem was.How many unsuspecting tourists have or will be caught out this way, especially if they cannot speak French.Needless to say on principal we would never visit this bar again, it's a shame as it's in a good location and always appears busy but I don't like dishonesty or trying to make money out of people they think may not be able to question due to the language barrier. In case you are wondering why the men only ordered for themselves, it's because the women decided against a drink in favour of a bit of shopping ☺
