We called in for fish chips around 4pm on Friday 15th December. The restaurant was very quiet because of the time of day, the waitress came for our order very promptly. We ordered the pensioners’ specials within minutes our fish, chips, mushy peas, brown white bread our hot drinks were brought to our table. I really appreciated my request for coffee instead of tea, it was milky coffee too, absolutely perfect. The restaurant the toilets were immaculate. During a coach tour, our final stop of the day was in Thirsk, a charming town with a beautiful Market Square. We stopped for coffee at the White Horse cafe and couldn't resist ordering a portion of chips after seeing how delicious they looked. The chips were fantastic, with a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. We were tempted to order fish to go with the chips, but we had an evening meal reserved at our hotel. Can’t believe this is the same place as we visited last year ! And gave the food and service top marks .. This evening was the worst quality and ungenerous portion of fish I have ever witnessed tiny fish which I doubt was cod .. and chips so thick they were undercooked and raw .. ladies on counter however very efficient and pleasant . Last year the fish was definitely cod large chunky and fresh tasting and chips delicious for £9 for one portion this wasn’t a good tasty experience . Won’t be coming back anytime soon . So disappointing .
My husband and I had a trip to Thirsk for the day and had read reviews on the white horse fish and chip shop so decided to try it out,we weren't disappointed,we had take away fish and chips which were lovely,the fish was thick,fresh and very tasty in a lovely batter,the chips were great as well,the lady who served us was friendly and made us feel welcome,will definitely visit again on our next trip to Thirsk.

The haddock was not good quality, lacking flesh, and the chips had a lot of burnt bits. No one at the table finished their meal. The dishes were served on small plates to give the illusion of more food, which was a bit embarrassing for a chip shop in this area. Overall, the fish did not seem fresh and appeared freezer burnt.
I recently had one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. The fish was beautiful, and the portion of chips and mushy peas were lovely. The staff were really friendly as well. I will definitely be stopping by again next time I'm in the area.
We visited today 3.1.2024 the chips and curry sauce were delicious. The bacon bap was brilliant too, plenty of bacon. Ewa was extremely professional and welcoming when she served us. Thank you. We will be back.
Absolutely gorgeous Freshly made and a great price. The waffle had just the right softness with crisp edges, the fruit was lovely and fresh. Definitely going again.

Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had. Very good sized portions too. We ordered take away which came in cardboard boxes. The food was hot and fresh.
