You can't visit Leeds without popping into the beating heart of the City. Licenced in 1718 and rebuilt in the 1880s Whitelock's is one of Leeds' oldest pubs. Hidden down an alleyway off the main thoroughfare of Briggate it's a world away from the modern city. A pure slice of opulent Victorian hostelry, etched glass, copper top tables and beautiful signwriting. With a great range of exceedingly well kept beer the pub is a real treat. The only downside being due to its popularity we've always found it rammed full but have no fear there's usually some space in the alley to savour a nice pint of cask even in Winter, I had the infamous Bad Kitty from Brass Castle on this occasion. Hands down one...

This was our second time at Whitelock's Ale House for Sunday lunch .. and WOW! This was the most incredible Sunday lunch, cooked to perfection! I went with my mum. I had the lamb and mum had the beef and we both commented on how tender the meat was. Served with roast potatoes, braised cabbage, carrots, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding (which was HUGE! and loads of thick tasty gravy! We had a side order ot cauliflower cheese... and a bottle of wine to share! We ate every mouthful and thoroughly enjoyed it. 5* recommendation! Absolutely faultless! Thank you for a PERFECT Sunday lunch!!!!

Whitelocks is a proper pub!! Loved it… table for 3 served by the magnificent Max we had a great time I recommend the fish finger sandwich with a side of chips with of course 4 pints of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord….. I would add my wife had the beautiful Sauvignon white wine which she said was very cold, zesty and lovely . The atmosphere is also very genuine and very honestly traditional I recommend a visit we did Friday afternoon but I would say call ahead and book in advance as lots of us share the same option long live the Whitelocks !!!!

Ignore the moaning people saying it’s terrible because it doesn’t take cash. This place is good for food! I tried a few other places before coming here and the other independent pubs weren’t doing food or don’t serve food at all. I was grateful this place was open and serving and it was buzzing on a Monday night at 8pm. Friendly and helpful staff, decent menu and good selection of drinks. Had the burger, was a good size, plenty of fries and nice coleslaw. Seems all cooked to order and not just heated up. Recommended! Reserva una mesa ahora

We went to Whitelocks for Sunday lunch and it was superb. Four of us for Sunday lunch and we ordered a couple of sides of cauliflower cheese, it was the best Sunday lunch I’ve had. Although the pub was busy with diners, the young staff did a great job, they were friendly, polite and professional. The quality of the food, the staff, the ambience, there was nothing to fault from walking through the door. It was that good, we went back the following evening for dinner.

Whitelock’s Ale House is hidden down a tiny alleyway off one of the main pedestrian streets through the centre of Leeds’ shopping area. Turn into this alley and it is like stepping back 200 years to Whitelock’s Ale House and the twin pub next door, the Turk’s Head. There is a generous variety of ales and comfortable inside and outside seating. Dinner at Whitelock’s is traditional British with generous servings and warm hospitality. Never fails to impress.

The best Sunday lunch we have ever had ! We have dined at Michelin star restaurants, stayed at the 4 Seasons many times. But for a Sunday lunch this beats them all the salted carrot starter was out of this world and the beef and lamb cooked pink with the fluffiest well seasoned roast potatoes and perfect veg and no watery gravy but a deep full gravy. Cannot wait to visit my daughter again as an excuse to eat here wonderful xx

Had the Beef and Ale pie but I found it difficult to eat . The pastry was stuck to the enamel dish , making it difficult to get to eat . Also not much beef and small pickled onions but tasted ok when I could eat it . I told two of the people there but they just said they knew other people had commented on it . It spoilt the meal .
