My experiences at Wildwood have been nothing less than enjoyable! I've been here for a little over a month due to a family tragedy. I thought I would leave Florence, with a bitter taste in my mouth due to the reasoning behind my visit. But Wildwood, the people, the atmosphere, and the sense of community has left me with a taste of sweetness that will only draw me back again one day soon. The people at Wildwood give this place such a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and a PLUS is.... The food is honestly quite delicious! The reviews concerning not feeling welcomed in a local bar are very true. My wife and I just left this place. When we walked in it felt like we were interrupting something. We sat down, looked at the drink menu and tried to get the bartender to look at us. Apparently the people at the bar were more important at the moment. They weren't busy serving food or anything, just too busy yucking it up with the people at the bar to even want to ask us if we needed anything. If you're not a townie, don't bother stopping in here. Pretty disappointing that small businesses treat people like this.
My husband and I decided to try a new restaurant, but as soon as we walked in, we felt very unwelcome. People stared at us as if to say, "How dare you come here?" It was such a strange atmosphere that we left and went somewhere else. This experience was about seven years ago, and I have no intention of returning. It felt like we had stumbled into a tight-knit small town that doesn’t take well to newcomers. I couldn’t help but wonder if my size had something to do with the way we were treated. Overall, it just felt like a pretentious crowd to me.
All the low ratings related to feeling “unwelcomed or interrupting” I kinda felt that way at first too, but then I sat at the bar and just asked the bartender if I could have a menu and after that it was smooth sailing. This is not an odd thing that happens when you’re from out of town or not familiar with a place. The food and drinks were superb. The Wildwood Tavern provides a personal experience. Everyone is so friendly and kind. The food is delicious and reasonable priced! After 7pm they have a security crew that makes me feel extremely safe and taken care of. I won’t hesitate to bring out my family to this bar and restaurant as the night livens up. Seeing staff keeping an eye out for their patrons is refreshing!
The hot dogs are fantastic, the drinks are generous, and the atmosphere is lively with friendly crowds and the sweetest bartenders ready to meet all your needs. I definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting Florence. I even met some locals from the original Florence! Good times, great music, and they have skeeball too! I'm a big fan of Wildwood!
